Solicitors from Welsh firms have been shortlisted from among the brightest and best of the legal profession for the Law Society of England and Wales’ Excellence Awards.

The awards, now in their 10th year, are a recognition of the commitment, enthusiasm and passion that solicitors dedicate to serving their clients, and – in the process – underpinning our world-renowned legal system.

“To be named among the alumni of Excellence Awards shortlists is an achievement to be proud of,” said Law Society president Robert Bourns.

“The awards showcase the really excellent work and dedication of the profession to our clients, and is one of the most rewarding and memorable days in the legal calendar.”

Shortlisted nominees from Wales are:

  • Watkins and Gunn for Excellence in Business Development and for Excellence in Technology;
  • Duncan Lewis Solicitors for Excellence in Pro Bono;
  • Elissa Thursfield of Gamlins Law Ltd for Junior Lawyer of the Year;
  • Mark Harris of NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership Legal & Risk Services for Solicitor of the Year – In-house.

The finalists for the prestigious awards are selected by a panel of experts from within and beyond the profession, and demonstrate the expertise and values shared by solicitors working across England and Wales, from small local practices and in-house teams, to international City firms.

“This tenth anniversary year of celebrating excellence in the profession is a testament to the hard work of our members, and of their sustained contribution, not only to our clients but to society as a whole,” said Robert Bourns.

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony hosted by BBC Radio 4 Today programme presenter Mishal Husain on 20 October 2016 at the Hilton Park Lane Hotel, London.
