Commenting in the build-up to the 2016 Olympic Games opening ceremony in Rio de Janeiro, Welsh Conservative leader Andrew RT Davies AM has wished athletes from Wales, and all those representing Team GB, every best wish for the competition. He has said:

“There will be a record number of Welsh athletes competing at an overseas Olympic Games this year in Rio, which is simply a superb achievement.

“Looking back to 2012, the performance of Welsh participants, and all of Team GB, was incredible.

“We look forward to proudly cheering on the athletes once again, in an event which is sure to foster a love of sport and competition, and drive public health initiatives, across the globe.

“The National Lottery has played an important role in funding sporting opportunities for people in the UK, and it is worth acknowledging this legacy on the eve of another Olympic Games.

“The whole Welsh Conservative Group wishes good luck to all those athletes from Wales, and from across the whole Team GB squad, as this leading international sporting event heads for Brazil.”
