Parents, carers and families living in the Neath Port Talbot area can now take advantage of a free play takeaway service by Play Works, the Play Development Team in NPT Council. The service enables them to borrow play equipment for their children to encourage them to learn and develop essential life skills.

Details of the type of equipment on offer can be found in the Play Works leaflets which are displayed at various locations in the county borough as well as on the Play Works website. The equipment is separated into 5 themes including Creative and Imaginative. Two themes at a time can be selected, and then the team will put together a customised bag with items from these themes which can be kept for up to a month.

Two items can also be taken from the ‘A little bit extra’ section – these include larger items such as giant jenga, a puppet theatre and a badge machine.

To register for the service, get in contact with Play Works by filling in the registration form included with the leaflets (which can be sent to a free postal address), calling 01639 873004, emailing playworks@npt.gov.uk  or filling in the registration form on the website.

Customised bags can be requested by phone or email once registered. The equipment can be delivered and picked up for free from a registered address or it can be collected and returned to the Play Works office at Ffrwdwyllt House in Taibach.

If you want to talk to the Play Works team directly, they are involved with many face to face events and would be happy to answer any queries. The team also works directly with health and social workers in the area.

Council Leader Ali Thomas OBE commented: “The play takeaway service is a great way to keep children amused and entertained and help them to develop skills without the expense of buying lots of new toys. It also offers families the chance to spend some quality time together trying out different toys during the summer holidays”.
