Welsh Conservatives have responded to comments made by the RAC today, who state that councils should stop doing “panic patch repairs” to potholes on roads and instead focus on keeping roads to high standards.

Welsh Conservative Shadow Secretary for Local Government, Janet Finch-Saunders AM, said:

“It’s time to stop being eternally reactive.
“The Welsh Government and local authorities should think seriously about exploring other technologies out there which would prevent potholes from appearing in the first place.

“For instance, Cardiff University has pioneered self-healing cement which scientists believe could significantly enhance road durability and safety helping to reduce extremely high maintenance costs.

“As a devolved nation, we must be constantly pioneering new ideas to ensure that we stay at the forefront of modern governance, to ensure that Wales offers innovative solutions to problems faced by the world over.”
