Tickets to see Wales take on Australia, Argentina and South Africa in the Under Armour Series at Principality Stadium this Autumn go on public sale tomorrow, Friday 19th August.
Over 30,000 tickets have already been snapped up for the third fixture in the annual series – against notorious giant killers Japan on Saturday 19th November – with sales for that game ongoing at rugby clubs around Wales and from WRU outlets since May.
Now supporters can book their seats to see Wales take on the Wallabies on Saturday 5thNovember, the Pumas on Saturday 12th November and the Springboks in the series finale on Saturday 26th November, by visiting their local club or online at www.wru.wales.
Prices have once again been frozen meaning fans can watch both Australia and South Africa for the same prices paid in 2010 – which are £25, £40, £60 and £70 – and, for the first time, over 45,000 tickets are available at half-price concessionary rates for U16s (in price band B where a £60 ticket becomes £30 for U16s).
Tickets to watch both Argentina and Japan start at £20 and, with the same concessionary offer available to U16s, meaning over 50 per cent of the Principality Stadium capacity is available to young fans from just £10.
The WRU has always positioned the Autumn Internationals as a family occasion, ensuring prices are competitive and accessible for all supporters. With demand for the Six Nations continuing to grow year on year, it is important that the Autumn Series remains an accessible proposition to allow all to watch their National team compete at the home of Welsh rugby.
“The Under Armour series is just around the corner and is set to be another huge contest for us as we welcome three out of the four Rugby World Cup semi-finalists to Cardiff as well as a Japan side that continues to make a name for itself on the world stage,” said Wales Head Coach Warren Gatland.
“The autumn has a huge bearing on our next rugby world cup cycle, not only in what we are looking to do and build on from the New Zealand tour but in terms of the seedings for the 2019 tournament, which will be finalised next May.
“That means every match in the series has a lot riding on it in terms of rankings but for us we want to also demonstrate where we are. We lost out narrowly to both Australia and South Africa in the RWC and this is an opportunity to test ourselves against them once again.
“Three of the sides will be coming here right off the back of the Rugby Championship so we know we need to hit the ground running from game one. It is great for us to host Japan, they were fearless in the RWC and captured the imagination of the public and that will be another huge occasion in Cardiff.
The continuation of the club incentive scheme, which has seen clubs earn over £500,000 in the previous two seasons from ticket sales, still means that the best place for fans to buy tickets is via their local rugby club.
Earlier this year each of Wales’ home RBS 6 Nations matches sold-out for the first time since 2008 with record sales (over 40,000 tickets) achieved in the first week of public availability. For the Under Armour Series, high demand for tickets is expected once again.
“With three out of the four Rugby World Cup semi-finalists and everyone’s favourite underdog in Japan heading to Cardiff this Autumn, we are once again in for a feast of rugby at Principality Stadium,” said WRU chief executive Martyn Phillips.
“We will all be keeping an eye on the results in the Rugby Championship to see if Argentina can continue their impressive form from the World Cup, when they were so exciting to watch.
“A good start against Australia could help define this Under Armour Series campaign, with the prospect of a Southern Hemisphere scalp or more being able to significantly help our world ranking in a season when Rugby World Cup seedings are at stake.
“With ticket prices frozen and over half the stadium available at concessionary rates we have done everything we can to ensure a mouth-watering prospect for rugby families from around the country and we fully expect the nation to get behind Wales once again this Autumn and help make the Under Armour Series 2016 a campaign to remember.”
