Owen Smith’s “reckless and cavalier” approach during the leadership campaign would have serious consequences for national security warns Andrew RT Davies today.
Mr Davies is warning that a Labour Party under Smith would place the union under threat, stoke up societal divisions over Europe, and open talks with ISIS terrorists.
The Labour Party, he says, has “surrendered the mainstream”.
Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, Andrew RT Davies, said:
“Owen Smith embodies many of the least sympathetic traits of modern politics because he is willing to do or say anything to capture a few votes.
“But his reckless and cavalier approach have serious consequences, and a Labour Party under his leadership would we a threat to Britain’s economic and national security.
“This is a man who wants to stoke up societal divisions over Europe by demanding a second EU referendum.
“A man so desperate to outflank the loony-left that he’ll cosy up to ISIS terrorists, and so keen to curry favour in Scotland he’s willing to put the very future of the union in danger.
“All the while, Carwyn Jones sits quietly on the sidelines refusing to denounce his colleagues as the Labour leadership contest goes from crisis to catastrophe.
“What we’ve witnessed in recent weeks is the Labour Party surrendering the mainstream, and sliding inexorably towards political oblivion. It would be amusing if it wasn’t so dangerous.”
