First Minister of Wales Carwyn Jones has wished Welsh Paralympic athletes good luck as they prepare to compete at the Games in Rio de Janeiro.

“Wales will be well represented at the Paralympics in Rio over the next fortnight as we are again punching above our weight with our athletes making up 10% of ParalympicsGB. After the success of Welsh competitors in so many events at the Olympics, it is great to see the breadth of events, from Archery and Athletics to Fencing and Wheelchair Rugby, in which our athletes are taking part.

“The talent and dedication of our Paralympians is an inspiration to all of us and their selection to represent ParalympicsGB at Rio shows what can be achieved through determination and hard work. I’m sure their efforts will inspire many others to have a go at sports and become more active.

“Pob lwc to all the Welsh stars and ParalympicsGB – the whole country is behind you and looking forward to another great performance!”
