The over 50s in Carmarthenshire are being invited to celebrate the creativity and contribution of older people.
‘Because Life is for Living’ is the theme of the Carmarthenshire 50+ Forum Annual Event at the National Botanic Garden of Wales on Friday September 16 from 10am-4pm.
Folk singer and Radio Wales presenter Frank Hennessy will be the special guest and will speak as well as perform some songs.
The other speakers will include Older People’s Commissioner Sarah Rochira, Future Generations Commissioner Sophie Howe, Carmarthenshire County Council 50+ Champion and executive board member for social care and health Cllr Jane Tremlett, and Carmarthenshire Older People’s Champion and executive board member for housing Cllr Linda Evans.
There will be information stalls for more than 40 organisations, and a range of free taster sessions, from reflexology to indoor bowls.
Sarah Rochira, said: “It is vital that older people have a voice that is heard, and that their wealth of knowledge and experience is drawn upon, to ensure that our communities are age friendly and that services and support meet the needs of people of all ages.
“The Carmarthenshire 50+ Forum, which has grown significantly in recent years, plays a key role in ensuring that policy and decision makers respond to older people’s voices effectively. I am really looking forward to meeting and speaking with members to find out more about what matters to them and the things that would make a positive difference to their lives.”
Carmarthenshire 50+ Forum Chair Caroline Streek said: “I think all our members are going to enjoy this year’s Annual Event – the Botanic Gardens make such an excellent venue. We have lots of stalls giving all sorts of information. All we need now is the weather!”
There is free admission for 50+ Forum members upon presentation of a membership card. If you are not a member or have lost your membership card you can register for free on the day.
