A MEMORY Walk is taking place along the Llanelli coastline later this month to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society.

It is the national charity’s flagship fundraising event, consisting of a series of sponsored walks across Wales, England and Northern Ireland.

Funds raised go towards local services for people affected by dementia, along with research into care, prevention and cure.

The event is made up of two walks both starting at Festival Fields – a short 3km route around Sandy Water Park, and a longer 8km stretch along the coastline.

An event village will be set up for participants and spectators, including music, caterers, gazebos, and live entertainment.

It will take place on September 22, starting at 10am with the walks taking off at 11am, and the event will end by 2pm.

Both routes will be marshalled and signposted. Walkers need to register in advance at www.memorywalk.org.uk and will be provided with information about the venue and walks.

The walk is one of a number of events being hosted at the Millennium Coastal Park (MCP). Rangers provide advice and support to organisers, and welcome applications for events at both the MCP and Pembrey Country Park.

Leisure executive board member Cllr Meryl Gravell said: “Our coastline is the ideal place for events such as fun runs and charity walks.

“We hope the weather will be kind on the day, and that people turn out to give the walkers their support.”
