Scottish Cheese Recalled due to Possible E.coli Link

Neath Port Talbot Council has been alerted by the Food Standards Agency regarding a recall of all cheese produced by Errington Cheese Ltd.

The Council has been informed that a number of different types of cheese produced by the company have tested positive for potentially harmful strains of E.coli, including E.coli O157.

Whilst Errington Cheese Ltd largely distributes its products in Scotland, some products may have been supplied to food businesses in England and some cheeses could be available to order online.

Neath Port Talbot Council’s Environmental Health team have looked into the matter and have found no evidence of any premises in Neath Port Talbot that supplies or uses any of the cheeses produced by Errington Cheese Ltd.

Council Leader, Cllr. Ali Thomas OBE said: “Whilst the risk for Neath Port Talbot residents is minimal, Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council advises residents not to consume any Errington Cheese Ltd products whilst the recall is in force. Any products you have should be disposed of or returned to the seller.

“We take any alerts from the Food Standards Agency extremely seriously and our Environmental Health team has been quick to react to ensure the safety of our residents who may have purchased or consumed some of these products via other outlets in the UK.”

  • Lanark Blue
  • Lanark White
  • Dunsyre Blue
  • Dunsyre Baby
  • Maisie’s Kebbuck
  • Cora Linn
  • Sir Lancelot

• The use-by dates are not known but these products could have been purchased up until Thursday 15 September 2016.

• Symptoms caused by E. coli O157 can include abdominal pain, bloody diarrhoea, and haemolytic uremic syndrome, a serious condition that can lead to kidney failure and can be fatal. Current FSA advice is that vulnerable groups including pregnant women, children and the elderly should not consume any raw, unpasteurised milk and dairy products such as cheese made from unpasteurised milk because of the increased risk of food poisoning.
