Staff from Ceredigion Family Information Service (FIS) have awarded five schools across Ceredigion for their support and help in promoting the county’s Family Information Service to children, staff and parents.
Five schools have been awarded for their work, they are Syr John Rhys, Mynach, Bontrhydfendigaid, Llangeitho and Rhos y Wlad. The awards were presented to pupils along with a certificate during their farewell assemblies in front of staff and parents of the schools.
The aim of the award is to strengthen the relationship between the Family Information Service and schools across the county, in order to raise awareness of what services are available to them locally.
All five schools were asked to complete different tasks such as displaying posters and leaflets about FIS in public areas around the school, teachers were asked to mention the services’ work in governors meetings, and to add a link of the FIS website on the school website where possible.
Joyce George, Headteacher at Syr John Rhys School in Ponterwyd said: “We are delighted to have won the award as we feel the FIS is an invaluable tool for parents, families and carers in the local area, and a great one stop shop to access up to date and relevant information about family needs.”
Councillor Hag Harris, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Learning Services, Children and Young People’s Partnership said: “There is a lot of support out there for families in the county and it’s great to see schools helping us to raise awareness of the service, so that we can ensure we connect people with services available to them to help them get the support they need.”
The FIS offers a wide range of information from childcare providers (including childminders, Day Nurseries etc) info about Breakfast, After School and Holiday Clubs, children and young people activities as well as parenting support to do with education and health Services.
The Ceredigion Family Information Service is a statutory service run by Ceredigion County Council under the Childcare Act 2006. The service provides a free, impartial service providing high quality information to children, young people, parents, carers, grandparents and professionals throughout the county of Ceredigion.
