• Iconic Principality Stadium confirmed for October 6th sleep out
• Incredible £1.2 million raised in UK by over 1,200 sleepers in 2016 who spent a night under the stars to help prevent youth homelessness
Byte Night, the UK’s largest sponsored sleep out returns to Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on Friday October 6th with Welsh professionals working in business and IT-related sectors being set the challenge of spending a night exposed to the elements to raise funds for Action for Children projects that help prevent youth homelessness.
After helping to raise £1.2 million in 2016, Byte Night Wales is holding a special launch and quiz night event on Wednesday 17th May at the Tramshed in Cardiff. Companies big and small from across Wales will be given the opportunity to take part in a great quiz night and find out how they can get involved in Byte Night and raise money to ensure disadvantaged young people get the support they need and have a safe place to live.
Barclays, KPMG, Spindogs, Acorn, Capgemini, Amber Energy, Capital Networks and Atradius are just some of the businesses who have already signed up teams to brave an October night under the stairs for Byte Night Wales.
David Sadler, Head of IT Recruitment at Acorn and co-chair of the Byte Night Wales board, will host the event. He said: “I’m so pleased Byte Night is coming back to Wales. Last year was a fantastic event to be part of – some real camaraderie between many successful businesses who had a completely rewarding and enjoyable evening. Now we’re firmly established, we believe we can put on an even better event and smash last year’s £35,000 total as we’re so passionate about raising much more money and awareness of the issues our young people face.
‘I’d like to invite all businesses from across Cardiff and Wales to come to our quiz night on the 17th May, have fun and hear from inspirational young people Byte Night has supported. We’re delighted to have secured the Principality Stadium for the second year and with our ambitious, creative and well-connected board we are looking forward to another unique professional networking opportunity as well as a chance to support some of the young people in our society who need it the most – one night really can make a lifetime’s difference.”
Those attending will hear from guest speakers about the networking, team-building and philanthropic gains from joining this £1 million annual fundraising event, as well as the opportunity to hear from some of Action for Children’s inspirational Young Ambassadors
Brigitte Gater, Action for Children’s National Director, Wales, added: “I’m really looking forward to Byte Night’s second year in Wales and building on a good first year’s total. This issues that young people face that can lead to them ending up on the streets are more prevalent than ever and we’re determined to do even better this year.
‘Our teams do amazing work with young people who have faced many challenges in their lives that most of us couldn’t imagine. Their heart breaking stories will drive us on to make our sleep out a roaring success as the UK’s largest sponsored sleep out celebrates its 20th birthday.’
Over £10 million has been raised UK-wide since the event started 20 years ago and Wales is included with 9 other locations for 2017: East Anglia, London, Midlands, Northern Ireland, North East, North West, Scotland, South West, Thames Valley and Wales. It is Action for Children’s flagship fundraising event, and now one of the top 20 fundraising events in the UK.
