Meet your new Executive Board

Ā  Leader Cllr Emlyn Dole has appointed a new Executive Board to lead and steer the council for the coming term.

A number of new Executive Board Members have taken up positions, with some familiar faces returning to continue working in their previous service areas.

As Leader and Chair of the Executive Board, Cllr Dole has overall corporate leadership and represents the Council on the WLGA, the Swansea Bay City Region and the Public Services Board. He leads on collaboration, and liaises with the Chief Executive. He has also added Economic Development and Marketing and Media to his portfolio.

Cllr Mair Stephens is Deputy Leader, managing council business and leading on transformation, innovation and change. She is also responsible for strategic planning, ICT, HR, performance management, training and Wales Audit.

Cllr David Jenkins continues his work as Executive Board Member for Resources, overseeing finance and budget, corporate efficiencies, property and asset management, and procurement. He is also responsible for housing benefits, revenues, statutory services including coroners, registrars, electoral and Lord Lieutenancy, and customer services. He continues to represent the council as its Armed Forces Champion.

Responsibility for Communities and Rural Affairs now lies with Cllr Cefin Campbell, who leads on rural community engagement, community safety, counter terrorism, and tackling poverty. Cllr Campbell also ensures the council delivers the objectives of the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act, and acts as the councilā€™s Third Sector Liaison.

Cllr Hazel Evans retains her position as Executive Board Member for Environment, dealing with matters such as refuse, street cleaning and ground maintenance; building services, cleaning and caretaking; transport services; emergency planning and flooding.

A new portfolio of Culture, Sport and Tourism is led by Cllr Peter Hughes-Griffiths. He oversees the development of the Welsh language, theatres, museums and libraries, as well as sport, leisure facilities and country parks. Cllr Hughes-Griffiths is also the Town and Community Councils Ambassador.

Cllr Glynog Davies is the new Executive Board Member for Education and Childrenā€™s Services, with responsibility for schools and school improvement; special educational needs; safeguarding of children and childrenā€™s respite homes. He is lead member for children and young people and acts as youth ambassador, and also oversees adult community learning.

Cllr Philip Hughes returns to the Executive Board following a break. He takes up the mantle for Public Protection, including trading standards, environmental health, parking services and biodiversity. He also leads on enforcement of matters relating to the environment, unlicensed waste and planning.

The portfolio for Social Care and Health remains with Cllr Jane Tremlett. She continues her responsibilities for adult social care, including residential and home care, and support for people with mental health and learning disabilities. She also leads on NHS liaison, collaboration and integration, and carries on her roles as Carersā€™ Champion, Dementia Care Champion and Disability Ambassador.

Cllr Dole announced his intention to re-appoint Cllr Linda Evans as Executive Board Member for Housing, covering both public and private sectors, as well as the champion of Equalities and Ageing Well. He will seek dispensation from the Standards Committee before he can do so.
