Cynnal Cymal Olaf Ras Fynydd Fawr yn Sir Gaerfyrddin
Cafodd cymal olaf Berghaus Dragon’s Back Race ei gynnal yn Sir Gaerfyrddin yr wythnos ddiwethaf wrth i bron 200 o redwyr mynydd gymryd rhan yn ras fynydd 5 diwrnod anoddaf y byd.
Gan ddilyn y mynyddoedd sy’n rhan o asgwrn cefn Cymru o’r gogledd i’r de, mae’r ras ryngwladol hon yn mynd dros 315 cilometr ac yn dringo 15,500 metr ar draws tir gwyllt, dilwybr, anghysbell a mynyddig.
Cynhaliwyd y pumed diwrnod a’r cymal olaf yn Sir Gaerfyrddin. Gan ddechrau yng ngogledd y sir, rhedodd y cystadleuwyr ar draws tirwedd hardd Bannau Sir Gâr a’r Mynydd Du cyn rhedeg i lawr at y llinell derfyn yn Llandeilo.
Dyma’r pedwerydd tro y mae’r ras wedi’i chynnal yma ac mae’r trefnwyr eisoes yn cynllunio ar gyfer yr un nesaf yn 2019.
Dywedodd Shane Ohly, trefnydd y ras: “Roedd Sir Gaerfyrddin yn lleoliad gwych ar gyfer cymal olaf y ras ryfeddol hon. Roedd y dirwedd arw hardd yn gefndir gwych ar gyfer cymal olaf y ras a’n rhedwyr sydd wedi dod o bob cwr o’r byd.”
“Roedd yn gyfle gwych i dynnu sylw at y wlad hardd hon.”
2017 yw Blwyddyn Chwedlau Cymru ac mae’r digwyddiad hwn ynghyd â mentrau eraill yn hyrwyddo Sir Gaerfyrddin fel lle gwych i fwynhau ac i ymweld ag ef.
Mae’r sector twristiaeth eisoes yn cyfrannu dros £352 miliwn at yr economi leol, ac mae’r Cyngor Sir yn arwain nifer o brosiectau i ddatblygu digwyddiadau presennol yn y sir yn ogystal â denu rhai newydd. Mae cymorth, cyngor a digwyddiadau gwella sgiliau yn cael eu darparu drwy’r cylch trefnwyr digwyddiadau ac mae cronfa cymorth newydd wedi’i lansio’n ddiweddar.

Major Mountain Race Holds Its Finale in Carmarthenshire
Carmarthenshire played host to the final leg of the legendary Berghaus Dragons Back Race last week as nearly 200 fell runners took part in the toughest 5-day mountain race in the world.
Following the mountainous spine of Wales from north to south, this international event takes place over 315km with 15,500m of ascent across wild, trackless, remote and mountainous terrain.
Day five and the final leg took place in Carmarthenshire with competitors from the world over starting off in the North of the county and making their way across the beautiful landscape of the Carmarthen Fan, Black Mountain and then dropping down to the finish line in Llandeilo.
It is the fourth time the event has been held here and organisers are already planning for the next one due to take place in 2019.
Race organiser Shane Ohly said “Carmarthenshire was a superb venue for the final leg of this amazing race. The beautiful rugged terrain gave us a fabulous backdrop for the finale of the race and for our runners, who came here from across the World.”
“It was a great platform through which to showcase this beautiful Country”
2017 is themed as Wales’ Year of Legend and this event along with other initiatives really showcase Carmarthenshire as a fantastic location to visit and enjoy.
With the Tourism sector already making a contribution of over £352million to the local economy, the County Council is spearheading a number of projects to grow existing events in the county as well as attract new ones. Support, advice and upskilling events are being delivered through the events network circle and a new support fund has been recently launched.
