Trading Standards today advised caution to consumers on the dangers of buying from doorstep sellers.

The warning comes after a spate of doorstep sales to Neath Port Talbot householders who have been ā€œcold calledā€ by traders offering headboards for beds at very cheap cash prices.

Recently some of these items have been seized by Trading Standards and when tested, it became apparent that they failed flammability tests under the furniture regulations.

Head of Planning and Public Protection Nicola Pearce said, ā€œWe would urge people to be extra vigilant. There have been reports of similar sales from other parts of Wales. These products do not comply with safety regulationsā€.

She added, ā€œThe sellers must give you cancellation and cooling off rights in writing when selling to you on your doorstep. If the trader does not offer you these rights, weā€™d recommend that you do not purchase the goods.ā€

If there is anything wrong with the product you have purchased it will be almost impossible to seek compensation or obtain a replacement.ā€

Sellers visiting consumers at their home are obliged to supply a notice of cancellation for most types of work and sales of goods. Almost every transaction is subject to a 14 day cooling off period for any work or goods costing more than Ā£42ā€

Consumers should always be cautious if asked for money up front as it is often very difficult to get the money back once it has been handed over.

Rhybuddiwyd defnyddwyr gan Safonau Masnach heddiw ynghylch perygl prynu nwyddau gan werthwyr stepen drws.

Daw’r rhybudd ar Ć“l cyfres o werthiannau stepen drws i breswylwyr Castell-nedd Port Talbot sydd wedi derbyn “galwadau diwahoddiad” gan fasnachwyr sy’n cynnig pennau gwelyau am brisiau arian parod rhad iawn.

Atafaelwyd rhai o’r eitemau hyn yn ddiweddar gan Safonau Masnach a phan gawsant eu profi, daeth yn amlwg eu bod yn methu’r profion fflamadwyedd o dan y rheoliadau dodrefn.

Meddai’r Pennaeth Cynllunio a Diogelu’r Cyhoedd, Nicola Pearce, “Byddem yn annog pobl i fod yn fwy gwyliadwrus. Cafwyd adroddiadau am werthiannau tebyg o rannau eraill o Gymru. Nid yw’r cynnyrch hwn yn cydymffurfio Ć¢ rheoliadau diogelwch.”

Ychwanegodd, “Mae’n rhaid i werthwyr rhoi hawliau canslo a chyfnod ailfeddwl i chi’n ysgrifenedig wrth werthu i chi ar eich stepen drws. Os nad yw’r masnachwr yn cynnig yr hawliau hyn i chi, argymhellwn nad ydych yn prynu’r nwyddau.”

Os bydd unrhyw beth o’i le gyda’r cynnyrch rydych wedi’i brynu, bydd bron yn amhosib hawlio iawndal neu ei newid.”

Mae’n rhaid i werthwyr sy’n ymweld Ć¢ chartrefi cwsmeriaid gyflwyno hysbysiad o ganslo ar gyfer y rhan fwyaf o wasanaethau a nwyddau a werthir. Mae bron pob gweithrediad masnachol yn destun cyfnod ailfeddwl o 14 diwrnod ar gyfer unrhyw waith neu nwyddau sy’n werth mwy na Ā£42.ā€

Dylai defnyddwyr bob amser fod yn ochelgar os gofynnir am arian ymlaen llaw gan ei fod yn aml yn anodd iawn cael yr arian yn Ć“l wedi iddo gael ei roi.
