Some 40 years ago a small group of enthusiastic Carmarthen boatmen identified a safety problem,
Whilst attempting the annual launch of their boats into the river Towy, one of them had a very close call to getting seriously injured, something had to be done!
They made the decision over a pint or two in the Square & Compass they were going to form a boat club, the first objective was to create a safe place to launch their boats into the river Towy, within a two year period they raised all the money amongst themselves, gained all permissions necessary then set about digging out and building the Carmarthen Boat Club slipway which is still in use today, sadly as time has passed by so have many of the original founders of Carmarthen Boat Club, it has since become a tradition in recognition of what they achieved, that when we lose a founder member we collect moneys amongst our current membership and then present that amount to the R.N.L.I Tenby
Our latest donation of £ 1000.00 was presented in the memory of Mr Gerald Harries vice Chair and Founder Member of Carmarthen Boat Club.
