The second seminar of the Carmarthenshire Event Organisers Circle has been hailed a great success as around 40 event organisers gathered at The National Botanic Garden of Wales recently.

The circle, which meets roughly every six months, came together for the second time to network, share ideas and hear talks from industry experts.

Representatives from Carmarthenshire Association of Voluntary Services, Carmarthenshire Community Bureau and Spice Time Credits spoke to the circle members as well as Machynlleth Comedy Festival organiser, Henry Widdicombe, who relayed his journey of growing the much revered event into one of Wales’ most popular in only its eighth year.

Delegates from a range of organisations and authorities such as licensing, public protection, highways and the Welsh Language Commission were also on hand to give advice and guidance.

The seminar was opened by council Leader Cllr Emlyn Dole.

He said: “Events are of the utmost importance to our county for a number of reasons.”

“Worth an estimated £1.5million to our region, events contribute to the economic growth of the county as well as the promotion of togetherness and health and wellbeing in our communities.”

County council staff also set out the future plans for the pilot scheme, which include the creation of a series of ‘how to’ videos to be uploaded onto the circle’s dedicated website, contact directories of suppliers, stand holders and volunteers and a scheme in three pilot towns which aims to nurture greater collaboration between event organisers, businesses and community groups.

Executive Board Member for Culture, Sport and Tourism, Cllr Peter Hughes-Griffiths, said: “This seminar was another positive step to helping and advising organisers to stage community events. The input by various individuals and the possibilities of advertising and targeting support through digital methods featured throughout.”

Seminar attendee, Tori Sparano from Cwmaman Town Council, said: “The seminar was really informative with a great line up of speakers and organisations present.  I made some great contacts and look forward to future events and using the website toolkit.”

The Event Organisers Circle initiative, which will be running for 18 months, has received funding through the Welsh Government Rural Communities – Rural Development Programme 2014-2020 (RDP), which is funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the Welsh Government. This particular project supports key priorities under the Welsh Government Strategy for Tourism 2013 – 2020 “Partnership for Growth”.
