Budding artists from Ysgol Gymraeg Ffwrnes have picked up their paintbrushes to design blinds for Llanelli Indoor Market.
Twelve children, ages 3-11, had to design their own image for three window blinds for the market hall as part of a project led by Carmarthenshire County Council.
Pupils created a Welsh themed collage with drawings of red dragons and a castle, alongside a rugby player, the daffodil flower and Mr Urdd.
The project was funded through the Welsh Government’s Fusion project – creating opportunities through culture. Its aim is to encourage and empower people to take an active part in the arts, culture and heritage.
The council’s executive board member responsible for markets, Cllr David Jenkins said: “The children have done a wonderful job and you can see their love of Wales in the collage they created. They were very proud to see their work displayed on the market windows and we’re hoping that shoppers visiting the market will enjoy and appreciate their efforts.”
The blinds will now be a permanent feature and are located at the rear of Garretts fresh seafood and butcher’s Bwyd Blasus stalls.
The council’s county markets manager, Amanda Davies said: “We’re thrilled with the new blinds and the children’s design – they add vibrancy to the market hall. They’ve only been up a week and already shoppers have remarked on how unique they are.”
