Caring Carmarthenshire mental health team commended
A Carmarthenshire mental health facility has been recognised for their commitment and support for carers and their families.
Morlais Ward in Carmarthen has achieved the Investors in Carers Bronze Level award; a scheme which is delivered by Hywel Dda University Health Board and supported by its local authority/third Sector partners in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire.
The Investors in Carers initiative is designed to help health facilities such as pharmacies, GP practices and hospitals focus on and improve their carer awareness and enhance the help and support they give carers.
Pennie Muir, Investors in Carers Regional Project Support Manager for Hywel Dda University Health Board, said: “It is so rewarding when working with enthusiastic people and wards who want to make a difference to the Carers who they come into contact with. The scheme allows them to do this as well as achieve something for their efforts.”
Liz Carroll, Head of Nursing Mental Health and Learning Disabilities said: “The team on Morlais ward are to be commended on achieving their Investors in Carers accreditation.
“This is a reflection on the value that the team place on the enormous contribution carers provide for their loved ones not only whilst they are in hospital but at all times.
“The achievement of the Investors in Carers is not a one off piece of work but one that the team are committed to continually improve and build upon.”
Lisa Bassett-Gravelle, Morlais Ward and Carmarthen CRHT Manager added: “The team are so pleased to receive the award, this has motivated us to aim for the silver!
“Carer’s play such a valuable part in supporting the health and well being of our patients and we appreciate everything that they do. It is important that we acknowledge their needs and support them.”
A carer is someone, of any age, who provides unpaid support to family or friends who could not manage without this help. This could be caring for a relative, partner or friend who is ill, frail, disabled or has mental health or substance misuse problems. Anyone can become a carer; in most cases becoming a carer is not out of choice, it just happens.
