PUPILS in Carmarthenshire competed for the chance to have their artwork displayed in County Hall.
Director of Education and Children’s Services Gareth Morgans invited all schools to enter an art competition.
They were asked to produce paintings depicting Carmarthenshire, with the four winning schools being rewarded with £100 each; and the individual pupils receiving personal gifts.
Winners were chosen by staff in the education department; primary schools; and a panel of judges.
Staff chose Dyffryn Taf as their winner; schools picked Heol Goffa’s entry; and the judges made up of Mr Morgans, the former executive board member Cllr Gareth Jones and Gareth Davies of the Oriel Myrddin Gallery, chose Canolfan y Gors and Bro Dinefwr.
The paintings, along with other entries, are now displayed at Mr Morgan’s office in County Hall and at education offices in Parc Dewi Sant.
Education executive board member Cllr Glynog Davies presented the schools with their awards. He said: “The standard of the artwork is excellent and congratulations must go not only to the winners, but to all those who took part.
“All the entries portray our county extremely well and demonstrative vivid imaginations, what I particularly like is that it is Carmarthenshire through the eyes of young people.
“We clearly have a wealth of talent here and I look forward to following their achievements in future years.”
