Coleg Cymraeg must deliver for all learners – Welsh Lib Dems

The role of the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol should be extended to develop the Welsh language across the higher education, further education and work-based learning sectors, a review has concluded.
Exploring the expansion of the remit of the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol to include further education was a key part the progressive agreement between the First Minister and Welsh Lib Dem Kirsty Williams.
Last year the Welsh Liberal Democrat Education Secretary Kirsty Williams ordered a review into the body that supports the development of Welsh-medium provision within higher education, enabling more students to study a variety of subjects through the medium of Welsh.
Commenting, Welsh Lib Dem Spokesperson for the Welsh Language, Cadan ap Tomos, said;
“The establishment of the Coleg has been instrumental in signalling a step-change in the breadth and quality of Welsh medium higher education.
“My party has long advocated for the expansion of the Coleg Cymraeg, ensuring that as many learners as possible, in as many settings as possible, have the opportunity to study through the medium of Welsh, and have access to the information and resources they need.
“I am proud that Welsh Lib Dem Education Secretary Kirsty Williams made the future of the Coleg and Welsh medium post-16 education a priority, and I look forward to seeing the recommendations from this report move forward.”
