CARMARTHENSHIRE students have again achieved above the Welsh average in their A and AS Levels, with almost a quarter of students getting A* and A grades.
The effort and hard work by students and schools has resulted in 76% of students attaining A*-C grades, remaining above the national Welsh average of 75.3%.
Of those studying A Levels, 97.7% of Carmarthenshire students achieved an A*-E grade – a commendable 22% of the grades being either A* or A.
The number of students studying at AS Level continues to increase in Carmarthenshire – 89.4% of students passed their examinations with improving trends at both A*-C and A*-E grades, once again places the A*-E pass rate comfortably above the national average of 88.9%.
The results have been welcomed by Carmarthenshire County Council’s education chiefs who have congratulated both students and schools.
Cllr Glynog Davies, Executive Board Member for Education, said: “The support and commitment of students, families and schools, coupled with successful partnership working with Carmarthenshire County Council, has ensured that our students have once again achieved high standards during this year’s A and AS examinations. On behalf of Carmarthenshire County Council I warmly congratulate all of our students on their achievements and wish them every success for the future.”
Interim Director for Education and Children’s Services Gareth Morgans added: “I would like to sincerely thank everyone who has supported our students in following their aspirational goals and equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed in order for them to reach their full potential. The results achieved across Carmarthenshire this year once again reflect the considerable effort, resilience and determination shown by our young people and I would like to sincerely congratulate them on all that they have achieved.
“It is pleasing to note the 100% pass rates for both the Welsh first and second language courses. 100% pass rates have also been achieved in history, psychology, business, government and politics, physical education and the combined English Language and literature courses, amongst others.
“The number of A*-A grades achieved remains amongst the highest across the region, highlighting the excellent, challenging, learning opportunities that our schools provide.
“I sincerely congratulate and thank everyone involved in today’s success and offer heartfelt best wishes to our students as they embark on their journeys ahead.”
