WRU 2nd XV launch

WRU Head of Rugby Participation Ryan Jones will launch the new WRU 2nd XV Conference and reveal a range of other second team initiatives introduced in order to support grassroots clubs on Wednesday (30 August) at Bridgend Athletic RFC.

The ten-team WRU Conference will include some of the most competitive 2nd XVs in South East and West Wales and the participating teams have also been entered into the WRU National Bowl for 2017/18. In North Wale; four 2nd XV teams have joined Division Three North, while, in addition, a new menu of options and formats for 2nd teams who prefer to play more socially and not commit to competitive league rugby has been introduced (see attached Game On graphic for information purposes). It is hoped the measures will help retain players, coaches, volunteers and supporters in grassroots club rugby, fitting in with the WRU’s purpose of More People More Often with More Enjoyment and supporting clubs in their efforts to utilise their 2nd XVs as a pathway from Youth Rugby to their First XV.
