Cetma’s Wildlife Watch Litter Pickers Project has been shortlisted by The Skipton Building Society’s Grassroots Giving initiative!

The Project’s aim is to clean up rural, wildlife areas, to help keep wildlife from litter harm as well as to help keep these areas looking nice. They to litter pick at least twice a month and encourage others to help.

For the last 18 months + they have been litter picking Dafen pond and during that time have had other people volunteer to join them and worked in different areas with local groups.

Trixie Evans Project Coordinator. Said:

“Unfortunately, like everything else in life, the equipment needed for this group is costly.”

We need litter picking equipment for the volunteers to use and especially trolley’s to put the full, heavy bags in.”

“It can be a real struggle to carry back bags when heavy items like glass drink bottles are in them, sadly we pick up so many of them!”

“If we have the money then we can promote ourselves better in the community, encourage more volunteers to join us and broaden our work.”

Skipton Building Society received over 700 applications from community groups, clubs and organisations across the UK and were really impressed with the work that the Litter pickers have been doing.  To make it to the shortlist stage they beat off hundreds of other applicants and were able to clearly demonstrate the positive impact that funding from Skipton would make in the local community.

“We’re all volunteers who want to make real positive change in our community but getting together and cleaning it up. Sadly there are too many people out there who just want to make a mess. However, we won’t let them win!”
