CARMARTHENSHIRE County Council has celebrated another year at Pride Cymru, an annual event supporting the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community.

Officers were part of a team at the Supportive Councils stand at the two-day event in Cardiff last weekend, asking visitors for feedback to help improve council services now and in the future.

They asked the LGBT community to describe the main barriers they faced when accessing public services, what LGBT focused activities and services they’d like to see in their communities, and how councils could encourage more involvement from the LGBT community to help shape local services.

The survey also asked about people’s experience of hate crime, how they reported it or what prevented them from reporting it.

Supportive Councils, including 10 local authorities across south Wales, have committed to promote equalities in public services and remove the barriers faced by LGBT people.

Cllr Linda Evans, executive board member for equalities for Carmarthenshire County Council, said: “It was great for Carmarthenshire to return to another Pride Cymru event, it’s always a pleasure to be part of the party atmosphere and speaking to people who can help us improve our services.

“We’d like to thank everyone who gave us feedback as part of our surveys, and congratulate Pride Cymru for another successful event.”
