Sir AP McCoy will join race-goers at Ffos Las Racecourse at a charity event in aid of NSPCC Cymru / Wales this weekend.
The former jockey will take questions from the general public at Ffos Las on Sunday, September 17th.
The event will raise funds to support the NSPCC’s services in Wales, which include Childline and Speak Out. Stay Safe – a successful initiative which helps to equip primary schools pupils with the skills they need to recognise abuse and speak out about it.
In Wales, in 2016/17, specially trained volunteers spoke to more than 58,000 children and visited over 490 schools to deliver the service. Entirely reliant on donations, Speak Out. Stay Safe aims to visit every primary school once every two years and further interest can be registered by teachers via the NSPCC’s website.
Last year 7,605 Welsh children and young people contacted the NSPCC-run Childline service, with concerns and worries ranging from bullying and low self-esteem, to self-harm and family relationships.
Chair of NSPCC Cymru / Wales Fundraising Appeal Board, Alan Peterson, said:
“This promises to be a hugely significant event that will greatly help the NSPCC’s fight for every childhood in Wales.
“All funds raised will go towards our tremendous services here and I’d like to thank Ffos Las for their help in hosting this very special race day.”
Ffos Las Sales Director, Sarah Jones has said: “We are thrilled to be hosting the charity race day in aid of the NSPCC.
“It is such a worthy cause and we are happy to be contributing to the charity’s ongoing good work
“The day should be great fun and it’s all for a good cause so we’re really looking forward to it.”
Julie Richards, community fundraising co-ordinator for South West Wales, said:
“We are delighted that Ffos Las Racecourse will be hosting this incredible day and helping to support NSPCC services across Wales.
“All fundraising efforts will make a huge difference to our fight for every childhood and the hard work of our many volunteers.
“We would like to say a massive thank you to all those involved in organising the event who, through their efforts, allow us to continue services like Childline and Speak Out. Stay Safe.”
Tickets for Ffos Las’ charity race day are available now with general admission tickets on sale from £11.
£2 from each ticket sale will go straight to the NSPCC enabling them to continue the fight against abuse and neglect.
