New shops and apartments launched in Llanelli town

TWO refurbished shop units and four brand new apartments have been launched in Llanelli town centre.

This renovation project is the first part of an overall scheme led by Carmarthenshire County Council to regenerate the town and boost footfall.

Officers are now actively marketing the Stepney Streets shop units to attract new businesses to one of the town’s main shopping streets, and tenants will soon move in to the new Tŷ Stepni apartments.

The buildings were amongst the first bought by Carmarthenshire County Council as part of its Opportunity Street scheme, in which investment has been made by buying vacant units from private ownership and starting works to bring these properties back to the market.

Money from the council’s capital budget has been boosted by the Welsh Government which has provided finance from its Vibrant and Viable Places fund.

Since 2014, 15 properties and a development site have been bought, meaning the council can now market and attract new businesses, set affordable levels of rent to help businesses establish, and create quality living accommodation above street level.

Cllr Emlyn Dole, Leader of the council, said: “Our Opportunity Street project has already started to improve the appearance of Llanelli town centre, which we hope will provide new confidence that Llanelli is a place to invest and do business.

“We have gained control of a portfolio of buildings within the town centre which is part of our long-term plans to ensure that commercial space is accessible and affordable for individuals and businesses looking to make an impact within the local economy.

“We are pleased to have launched the first of the refurbished buildings this week, which demonstrates the commitment we have made as a council to regenerate Llanelli town centre.

“We look forward to welcoming two new businesses within the retail units and the first tenants to the new Tŷ Stepni apartments in the very near future.”

Lansio siopau a fflatiau newydd yn nhref Llanelli

Mae dwy uned sydd wedi’u hadnewyddu ar gyfer siopau a phedair fflat newydd sbon wedi’u lansio yng nghanol tref Llanelli.

Y prosiect adnewyddu hwn yw rhan gyntaf cynllun cyffredinol, dan arweiniad Cyngor Sir Caerfyrddin, i adfywio’r dref a denu siopwyr.

Mae swyddogion wrthi’n marchnata’r unedau ar gyfer siopau ar Stryd Stepney i ddenu busnesau newydd i’r stryd hon, sef un o brif strydoedd siopa’r dref, a bydd tenantiaid yn symud i fflatiau newydd Tŷ Stepni yn fuan.

Roedd yr adeiladau ymhlith y rhai cyntaf a brynwyd gan Gyngor Sir Caerfyrddin fel rhan o gynllun Stryd Cyfleoedd, lle gwneir buddsoddiad drwy brynu unedau gwag o ddwylo preifat a dechrau gweithio arnynt er mwyn iddynt ddychwelyd i’r farchnad.

Rhoddwyd hwb i arian cyllideb gyfalaf y Cyngor gan i Lywodraeth Cymru ddarparu cyllid o’i chronfa Lleoedd Llewyrchus Llawn Addewid.

Ers 2014, prynwyd 15 eiddo ac un safle datblygu, sy’n golygu y gall y cyngor farchnata a denu busnesau newydd, gosod lefelau rhent fforddiadwy i helpu busnesau i sefydlu eu hunain, a chreu llety preswyl o safon uwchlaw lefel y stryd.

Dywedodd y Cynghorydd Emlyn Dole, Arweinydd y Cyngor: “Mae ein prosiect Stryd Cyfleoedd eisoes wedi dechrau gwella golwg canol tref Llanelli, a gobeithio y bydd hyn yn dod â hyder newydd i Lanelli fel lle i fuddsoddi ynddo a gwneud busnes.

“Rydym wedi ennill rheolaeth dros bortffolio o adeiladau yng nghanol y dref sy’n rhan o’n cynlluniau hirdymor i sicrhau bod gofod masnachol hwylus a fforddiadwy ar gael i unigolion a busnesau sy’n bwriadu cael dylanwad ar yr economi leol.

“Rydym yn falch o fod wedi lansio’r cyntaf o’r adeiladau a adnewyddwyd yr wythnos hon, sy’n dangos ein hymrwymiad fel Cyngor i adfywio canol tref Llanelli.

“Rydym yn edrych ymlaen at groesawu dau fusnes newydd i’r unedau adwerthu a’r tenantiaid cyntaf i fflatiau newydd Tŷ Stepni, a hynny yn y dyfodol agos iawn.”
