FRESHERS do not fear – there is a big welcome waiting for you in Carmarthen.
The first year of uni can be a pretty big deal so Carmarthen is giving students across the county an exclusive night out.
Students will get to know the town at this year’s Student Take Over event on Thursday September 28.
Huge discounts will be available on the night, with over 40 of the town’s most popular retailers offering up to 30% off including; H&M, River Island, New Look, Miss Selfridge, Topshop and Animal. The evening will be packed with offers, competitions, giveaways and activities, including live music, street entertainment, photo booth and bowling.
Over 1,000 students are expected to join in the event planned for Carmarthen town centre on September 28 from 5pm – 9pm, when they’ll be able to snap up huge bargains and cut-price products.
The event will kick off at 5pm, with live local bands performing outside Guildhall Square.
Council Leader Cllr Emlyn Dole said: “We are very excited to be hosting the Student Take Over event.
“With all of the fantastic entertainment and activities we have lined up, we’re sure it will be a huge hit with local students. There will be some great bargains to grab and with the town staying open until 9pm, there will be plenty of time to shop!
“As well as supporting local businesses and encouraging new trade, it will be a great opportunity for students to explore Carmarthen town. I’d like to thank all the businesses that have supported the event.”
The Council’s economic development team has teamed up with the University of Wales Trinity St David (UWTSD), Yr Atom, Carmarthen Town Council and the Students Union to bring the Student Take Over event to Carmarthen.
Group President Rob Simkins from University of Wales Trinity St David Student Union) said: “We’re delighted to see retailers across the town working together to create the biggest student night out the town has hosted to date. Carmarthen established the event last year and by working together again this year, we’ve been able to evolve an extremely successful and popular event into takeover for students.
Students are extremely valuable shoppers in the centre and we are proud to offer everything in one location for them.”

· All students can pre-register for a free wristband simply go online to register https://www.tsdsu.co.uk/freshtivalcarmarthen. If you haven’t pre registered you can still come along to the event. Find the ‘Register Now’ desk on Guildhall Square. Remember to bring your valid NUS or Student ID card with you – without this, you can’t be issued with a wristband, which gives you entry to the event and exclusive discounts.

Mae’r Sbri Siopa i Fyfyrwyr a gynhelir ar nos Iau, Medi 28, yn gyfle i fyfyrwyr ddod i adnabod y dref.
Bydd cynigion arbennig ar gael ar y noson wrth i 40 o siopau mwyaf poblogaidd y dref gynnig gostyngiadau o hyd at 30%, gan gynnwys H&M, River Island, New Look, Miss Selfridge, Topshop ac Animal. Bydd y noson yn llawn cynigion arbennig, cystadlaethau, rhoddion a gweithgareddau gan gynnwys cerddoriaeth fyw, diddanwyr stryd, bwth lluniau a bowlio.
Disgwylir i dros 1,000 o fyfyrwyr dyrru i’r digwyddiad yng nghanol tref Caerfyrddin ar Fedi 28, rhwng 5pm a 9pm, er mwyn chwilio am gynigion a bachu bargen.
Bydd y digwyddiad yn dechrau am 5pm pan fydd bandiau byw yn perfformio ar y Clos Mawr.
Dywedodd y Cynghorydd Emlyn Dole, Arweinydd Cyngor Sir Caerfyrddin: “Rydym wrth ein boddau’n croesawu’r Sbri Siopa i Fyfyrwyr eleni.
“Gyda’r holl adloniant a’r gweithgareddau gwych sydd ar y gweill bydd y noson yn siŵr o fod yn boblogaidd tu hwnt ymhlith y myfyrwyr lleol. Bydd bargeinion lu i’w bachu a digon o amser i siopa gan fod y drysau ar agor tan 9.
“Yn ogystal â chefnogi busnesau lleol a hybu masnach newydd, bydd yn gyfle gwych i fyfyrwyr gael gweld beth sydd gan dref Caerfyrddin i’w gynnig. Carwn ddiolch i’r holl fusnesau sydd wedi cefnogi’r digwyddiad.”
Mae tîm datblygu economaidd Cyngor Sir Caerfyrddin wedi bod yn cydweithio â Phrifysgol Cymru y Drindod Dewi Sant, Yr Atom, Cyngor Tref Caerfyrddin, ac Undeb y Myfyrwyr er mwyn dod â’r Sbri Siopa i Fyfyrwyr i Gaerfyrddin.
Dywedodd Llywydd Grŵp Rob Simkins o Undeb y Myfyrwyr Prifysgol Cymru y Drindod Dewi Sant: “Mae’n bleser gweld siopau ledled y dref yn gweithio gyda’i gilydd i greu’r noson fwyaf y mae’r dref wedi’i chynnal i fyfyrwyr hyd yn hyn. Trefnwyd y digwyddiad am y tro cyntaf yng Nghaerfyrddin y llynedd, a thrwy weithio gyda’n gilydd eto eleni rydym wedi llwyddo i ddatblygu digwyddiad llwyddiannus a phoblogaidd tu hwnt i fyfyrwyr.
Mae myfyrwyr yn gwsmeriaid pwysig tu hwnt i’r dref ac rydym yn falch o gynnig popeth ar eu cyfer mewn un lleoliad.”
