There are easier ways to raise money for great causes but they don’t interest Kathy Buckley, Atradius senior information security officer and Byte Night Wales board member.
Kathy, from Cardiff, has just completed the Gower Fancy Dress Triathlon for Action for Children’s Byte Night, the UK’s largest sponsored sleep-out and fundraising campaign, raising over £1,200 in the process for disadvantaged children in Wales.
The Gower Fancy Dress Triathlon event took place in Port Eynon and involved a gruelling 400m sea swim, a 16k bike ride, and a 5k run.
Kathy said: “I’m no gym bunny but I wanted to do something that tested me and took me out of my comfort zone and it certainly did that! Even though the triathlon was hard, it’s nothing to what too many of our children and young people face every day and that’s what drove me on.
‘I loved it and feel proud of what I achieved. I’m also thrilled I raised over £1200 for Action for Children and it was a great opportunity to raise awareness of Byte Night ahead of the big sleepout next month.’
Byte Night returns to Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on Friday October 6th with Welsh professionals working in business and IT-related sectors being set the challenge of spending a night exposed to the elements. An incredible £1.2 million was raised in the UK by over 1,200 sleepers in 2016 with Wales playing its part for the first time.
Teams from Cardiff companies including Acorn, Admiral, Atradius, BT, Capital Networks Solutions, DMC, Spindogs, KPMG, Circle IT, Cardiff Start and CGI have already signed up.
