Jenny Jones receives WSRB Female Coach of the year

Wales Squash and Racketball (WSRB) annual awards where held recently at the Angel Hotel Cardiff. Nearly 200 people attended the presentation evening and it was fantastic to see Carmarthen Squash Club Coach Jenny Jones receive the award for Female Coach of the year as well as receiving her Welsh representational cap for playing in the home internationals this year.

Jenny Jones is a livestock farmer by day transforming to squash coach/player by evening.
Jenny runs her livestock farm in Kidwelly where she predominately deals with beef and sheep, she goes from wellies and muck by day to the fast and furious squash court in the evening and weekend.

Jenny is a level 2 squash coach, coaching within a leisure centre environment in Carmarthen. Jenny has been coaching and playing squash for the last 20 years, Jenny achieves her own Welsh caps playing masters squash for Wales and she is a frequent player on the masters circuit traveling across Europe flying the flag for Wales. Jenny plays her local squash within the Pembrokeshire League where she is also active as treasurer of the league, here she mentors her junior side.

It is really positive to see someone of this calibre giving back to her sport and passing on her wealth of knowledge to the younger generation helping the sustainability of our great sport.
Jenny runs weekly Saturday morning junior coaching sessions out of Carmarthen Leisure Centre as well as running two after schools club and her juniors are finding their own success with 2 in Wales academy squad and 2 in National squad 4 of Jenny’s juniors are now level 1 squash coaches fantastic achiement.

As well as coaching at the club Jenny regularly gives her time and supports WSRB delivering Mini squash around the county and beyond this last year over a 1000 children had the opportunity to partake in schools programs.

Jenny has also actively supported BME providing BME squash to girls only sessions.

The work Jenny has put in at the club ensuring all good policies and procedures are in place and followed has seen the Wales Squash & Racketball Silver Charter awarded to the club this year.

WSRB Development Officer Pete Crook Committed “Jenny is a fantastic coach and has a very empathic approach she keeps her sessions fun ensure as well as learning the juniors enjoy her sessions, I have always found Jenny more than willing to give up his own time to help promote our sport at both club. schools and community sports days where we show case squash and as such without the likes of Jenny I would certainly find it difficult to fulfil some of these commitments with 200+ children partaking.
Jenny has certainly shown all who have the pleasure of working alongside her she is a valuable asset to her club and a fantastic ambassador for both club and more importantly our sport.
The parents of and children Jenny coaches always speak highly of her, she is a fantastic mentor and role model to all those who are lucky enough to have her as their coach. This award is well deserved”
