LORDS TO QUESTION NATIONAL FARMERS UNION ON HOW THE GOVERNMENT CAN IMPROVE SUPPORT FOR RURAL COMMUNITIES

THE SELECT COMMITTEE ON THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT AND RURAL COMMUNITIES
ACT 2006 WILL CONTINUE TAKING EVIDENCE FOR ITS INQUIRY ON TUESDAY 17
OCTOBER. THE COMMITTEE WILL QUESTION REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
COUNTRYSIDE ALLIANCE, THE NATIONAL FARMERS UNION AND THE COUNTRY LAND
AND BUSINESS ASSOCIATION.

The sessions will examine whether the Government has a coherent rural
vision and how it can better deliver on policy decisions for people
living in remote areas of the UK.

AT 11:05AM THE COMMITTEE WILL HEAR EVIDENCE FROM:

* TIM BONNER, Chief Executive, Countryside Alliance

AT 11:50 AM THE COMMITTEE WILL HEAR EVIDENCE FROM:

* CHRISTOPHER PRICE, Director of Policy and Advice, CLA
* GUY SMITH, Vice-President, National Farmers Union

QUESTIONS THE WITNESSES ARE LIKELY TO BE ASKED INCLUDE:

* Will new legal powers, or new structures, be needed to compensate
for the loss of EU oversight for environmental protection as a result
of Brexit?
* How well does Natural England take account of the economic and
social impacts of its policies and actions?
* What structures need to be put in place to take better account of
rural needs in policy making?
* Where should rural advocacy, advice and monitoring sit within
government?

THE EVIDENCE SESSIONS WILL TAKE BEGIN AT 11:05AM, TUESDAY 17 OCTOBER
IN COMMITTEE ROOM 1 OF THE HOUSE OF LORDS.
