Action for Children has brought its Never Mind the Business quiz and live music event to Wales and Swansea City’s Liberty Stadium for the first time on Friday 13th October hosted by BBC Wales’ Wynne Evans.

Over 220 guests enjoyed live music from James Williams, an auction and beer and food while pitting their music knowledge against other teams from across South Wales at the quiz – which included a sing-along lyrics round and a round of ‘classic album covers’ – while raising a brilliant £37,000 for disadvantaged children and young people supported by Action for Children.

Friday 13th proved very lucky for Deacon Flu as their great musical knowledge meant they scooped the platinum music quiz trophy.

Paul Thorburn, former Welsh rugby international, Douglas-Jones Mercer representative and chairman of the Never Mind the Business committee, said: “What a brilliant night of live music and quiz chaos! It was brilliant to see so many people having fun and to raise £37,000 for Action for Children and the children and young people in our communities who need it most was fantastic.

‘As a proud Swansea firm, Douglas-Jones Mercer was delighted to be the main sponsor of Never Mind the Business working with our other key sponsor, Antur Insurance to put on this key Action for Children fundraising event. I’m grateful to everyone involved for making the event go so smoothly.’

Nina Rice, fundraiser for Action for Children in Wales, explains: ‘It’s a privilege to have Never Mind the Business come to Wales for the first time and to see everybody let their hair down and enter the music quiz so enthusiastically was fabulous.

‘The event has proved very popular in Scotland, raising £1.5m since its inception in 2004 and I’m thrilled we’ve now joined our Scottish colleagues in making a real difference to the disadvantaged children and young people Action for Children proudly serves with this wonderful event.’
