Council flat used as cannabis farm
A council tenant has been evicted after turning the property in Llanelli into a cannabis farm.
Over 30 cannabis plants were discovered in a ground floor flat in Morfa when council officers were alerted by the police, who were already attending a raid elsewhere in the block of flats, and grew suspicious of an overwhelming smell from this property.
Due to fire safety concerns, they then discovered cannabis growing in the one-bedroom property which the tenant had adapted as a makeshift factory complete with a heating, lighting and air conditioning system.
Large holes had been knocked into the walls to accommodate a ventilation system and electric wires were loosely draped across the walls, ceilings and floorboards. A cannabis feeding booster was also discovered around the pots of weed.
Housing enforcement officers secured an eviction last week at Llanelli County Court after the tenant went on the run. He now also faces police action.
The council’s executive board member for Cllr Linda Evans said: “The property is in an appalling state and it’s going to costs thousands of pounds to make it habitable again, so we will be chasing him for payment. This tenant was using the flat to cultivate cannabis and I have no doubt that had it not been discovered it would have reached the most vulnerable people in our community. People have no business to abuse and damage council properties in this way, it is not fair on the neighbours or officers who have to go in to clean this mess up. We have a high demand placed on our housing waiting list and there genuine people waiting for a home – this man’s actions are not only disrespectful to council property but to local families who are in need.”

Roedd yr heddlu eisoes yn cynnal cyrch mewn man arall yn y bloc o fflatiau pan ddechreuon nhw fynd yn ddrwgdybus o arogl a oedd yn ddigon i’w llethu yn dod o’r fflat hwn.
Yna, oherwydd pryderon ynghylch diogelwch tân, fe wnaethon nhw ddarganfod canabis yn tyfu yn y fflat un ystafell wely. Roedd y tenant wedi’i newid i fod yn ffatri dros dro oedd yn cynnwys system wresogi, golau a system aerdymheru.
Roedd tyllau mawr yn y waliau er mwyn gwneud lle i system awyru ac roedd gwifrau trydan yn hongian yn llac ar draws y waliau, y nenfydau ac ar estyll y llawr. Hefyd cafodd peiriant bwydo canabis ei ddarganfod o amgylch y potiau o ganabis.
Llwyddodd swyddogion gorfodi tai i gael gorchymyn troi allan yn Llys Sirol Llanelli wythnos diwethaf ar ôl i’r tenant fynd ar ffo. Mae e bellach yn wynebu camau gweithredu gan yr Heddlu.
Dywedodd y Cynghorydd Linda Evans, yr Aelod o’r Bwrdd Gweithredol dros Dai: “Mae’r eiddo mewn cyflwr ofnadwy ac mae’n mynd i gostio miloedd o bunnoedd i’w wneud yn addas i fyw ynddo eto, felly byddwn yn ei erlid am daliad. Roedd y tenant hwn yn defnyddio’r fflat i ffermio canabis ac nid oes unrhyw amheuaeth gennyf y byddai’r canabis wedi cyrraedd y bobl fwyaf bregus yn ein cymunedau os na fyddai wedi cael ei ddarganfod. Nid oes hawl gan bobl i gamddefnyddio a difrodi eiddo’r Cyngor yn y modd hwn. Nid yw’n deg ar y cymdogion nac ar swyddogion sy’n gorfod glanhau’r llanast. Mae galw mawr ar ein rhestr aros ar gyfer tai ac mae pobl ddilys yn aros am gartrefi. Mae’r hyn y gwnaeth y dyn hwn yn dangos diffyg parch nid yn unig tuag at eiddo’r Cyngor ond hefyd tuag at deuluoedd lleol sydd angen cymorth.
