luned Morgan AM has raced against the clock to mark the start of the Remembrance period in Wales as Royal British Legion members and the friends and family of loved ones who have served in the Armed Forces come to together to remember those who have fought in past conflicts.

The 6 hour bike ride organised by the Royal British Legion and held in the Senedd yesterday (Tuesday 24th October, 2017) also commemorated the 100th anniversary of Passchendaele, a battle that saw thousands of Welsh soldiers including men from the three counties killed in one of the bloodiest conflicts involving the British army.

Cycling 2 kilometres as part of the challenge, Eluned Morgan took to social media to encourage people to give to the Poppy Appeal which provides support to all members of the British Armed Forces and their families, past and present.

Eluned Morgan AM said:

“The Royal British Legion continues provides invaluable support to the Armed Forces community.  Over the coming weeks, volunteers will be out in every part of Pembrokeshire selling poppies and reminding all of us of the needs of those who serve or have served our country’.

Wales Area manager Ant Metcalfe said:

‘We were delighted to welcome Eluned Morgan to our annual Poppy Ride in Wales. This event is a different, way of marking the Remembrance period alongside all of the other vital local and national events the Legion is involved with at this time. 2017 marks the centenary of the Battle of Passchendaele and we hope this event has brought us all together to remember and also raise awareness of those who continue to requires the Legion’s support today. Over 70 people participated on the day including Serving personnel from the Royal Navy along with Legion beneficiaries and members. It is always a real team effort and we were delighted to be able to work with the Assembly to host this once again’.
