Opportunity for businesses to sell to local government

BUSINESSES across South West Wales are being offered the opportunity to sell their goods, works and services to local government.

Small and medium businesses, third sector organisations and minority groups are invited to supplier engagement events to help them bid for contracts with both Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire County Councils.

The two local authorities have joined forces to pilot a shared procurement service and are now pro-actively engaging with potential suppliers.

Carmarthenshire’s executive board member for procurement Cllr David Jenkins said: “Both councils are keen to see small and medium-sized local businesses competing for the opportunity to supply goods, works and services.

“We are trying to help them as much as possible through holding sessions which will provide them with the advice and information they need to compete for our business.”
The procurement surgery sessions, which will be taking place later this month, will provide businesses with an opportunity to speak with council procurement officers on a one-to-one and informal basis.

They will be held at the Beacon in Dafen, Llanelli, on November 22; and County Hall, Haverfordwest on November 30.

Individual sessions will be available throughout the day between 9am and 5pm, and people are advised to make an appointment.

Cllr Jenkins added: “I hope as many local companies and organisations take this opportunity to find out more about supplying us with goods or services, thus contributing to a circular economy whereby the Carmarthenshire/Pembrokeshire pound is spent within the region providing all the economic benefits that follow. Our aim is to support local business, and this is one of the ways we can do this.”
