VETERAN WALKS 841KM FOR FORCES’ CHARITY MISSION MOTORSPORT
Walk ends at charity’s Race of Remembrance event, Anglesey Circuit in North Wales

Army veteran Andy Mills is walking 841km through four countries to raise money for the Forces’ charity Mission Motorsport, culminating at the charity’s Race of Remembrance event in North Wales on 12th November.

The ‘Memorial Meander’ will see Andy walking for 12 – 13 hours every day for two weeks, while carrying 21 kilos of kit, to thank the charity for its support in the past two years and help raise awareness of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Run by veterans for veterans, Mission Motorsport works with those that have been physically and or mentally affected during operations, engaging people through unique racing events then working with them to retrain and recover.

Starting at the Veterans’ Motorcycle Clubhouse in Avenwede, Gütersloh in Germany, on 27th October, Andy’s route takes him through Germany and on to Holland to board a ferry at Rotterdam. Once in the UK, Andy will walk across England to Wales and the hills of Snowdonia National Park, reaching Anglesey in North Wales for Mission Motorsport’s Race of Remembrance.

In its four years since inception, Race of Remembrance has become an annual highlight in the racing calendar. Alongside the night and day endurance racing, and the social side including the Heroes Dinner, all activity stops at 10.45 on Sunday morning for a very special service of Remembrance.

Andy said: “I had a really bad time about a year and a half ago, including four months in therapy, and Mission Motorsport was there to help me in my hour of need. I wanted to find a way to thank them while raising awareness of PTSD and the excellent work of the charity to help veterans like me. Run by ex-military personnel the team at Mission Motorsport are like a family and look after all veterans – those who have been wounded physically or mentally – and basically use motor racing as a form of therapy.

“I have done a lot of walking, lots of it. I have worked out how far I can walk in an hour so that’s why I have given myself two weeks to complete the journey – plus I only have two weeks of annual leave left to do it in.”
