Residents, businesses, local groups and other organisations in Neath Port Talbot are being encouraged to have their say on how the Council can meet its budget shortfall for 2018/19and beyond.
Faced with a projected budget gap of £10.2m for 2018/19, the Council has published a set of draft proposals. People are being asked to give their views on these as part of a public consultation which will run untilMonday 15 January 2018.
Councillor Carol Clement-Williams, Cabinet Member for Finance, said:
“Whilst the Provisional Local Government Settlement for Neath Port Talbot was better than expected with a cut of -0.4%, budgetary pressures persist due to austerity.
“Difficult decisions will have to be made once again for the forthcoming financial year.
“It is important that any final decisions are as informed about the needs of Neath Port Talbot as possibleand I hope that people take the time to give their views on the draft proposals.”
Since 2010, The Council has reduced its budget by more than £77 million. This has been achieved in a number of ways including, reducing the Council’s workforce, making efficiency savings by changing the way the Council works and by working with and transferring assets topartners in the community to deliver some services.
More information on the proposals and an online questionnaire can be found at www.npt.gov.uk/budget. Paper copies of the questionnaire and boxes for returningthese can be found at civic buildings, libraries and other public buildings across the county borough. People can also give their views via Facebook(NeathPortTalbotCBC), Twitter (@NPTCouncil) or email nptbudget@npt.gov.uk.
