Excellent water quality rating for Cefn Sidan

ALTHOUGH only the hardiest of souls would be brave enough to take a dip there at the moment, they’d be pleased to hear that water quality at Pembrey’s Cefn Sidan beach has been classed as excellent once again.

Natural Resources Wales has published its 2017 designated bathing water classifications, listing Cefn Sidan – managed by Carmarthenshire County Council – as excellent.
It’s more good news for the beach, which was granted the coveted Blue Flag by Keep Wales Tidy earlier this year.

Nearby Pendine Sands, managed by Pendine Community Council, has also been classed as excellent.
Cllr Philip Hughes, Carmarthenshire County Council’s executive board member for public protection, said: “Whilst we are always confident of the water quality at our designated bathing beaches, it is always great to see them officially classed as excellent.”

Together, Cefn Sidan and Pendine are Carmarthenshire’s two designated bathing beaches and help attract thousands of tourists to the area every year.

Cllr Peter Hughes Griffiths, executive board member for culture, sport and tourism, said it was wonderful news.

“Those who live in Carmarthenshire are lucky to have these beaches on their doorstep all year round, but in terms of tourism potential they are a huge attraction,” he said.
