The Dafen Row area of Glanymor, Llanelli, was targeted for a recent litter pick with volunteers turning out to help.

They cleared litter from grass verges, green open spaces and footpaths along Dafen Row, removing 15 black bags of general waste, four blue bags of recyclable items and several fly-tipped larger items including a tyre, a door, a trolley base and the outer casing of a large TV set.

The successful clean up today was a team effort involving Carmarthenshire County Council’s Pride in your Patch, Keep Wales Tidy, Wales Wildlife Watch Litter Pickers and others.

Carmarthenshire County Council executive board member for environment Cllr Hazel Evans said: “Litter is one of the major concerns for Llanelli residents, so it’s such a shame that so many people seem to discard litter, either when walking, throwing from a vehicle or fly-tipping household items, with little regard for the impact on the local environment.

“Littering is an anti-social behaviour which spoils the appearance of areas and is a real hazard to wildlife. It’s great that volunteers joined in this clear up of their area.”
