Give the Park-and-Ride Christmas shopper special a try

TAKE the hassle out of Christmas shopping in Carmarthen this year by hopping aboard the Park-and-Ride.

The countdown to the festive season starts on November 24 with the switch-on of Carmarthen’s Christmas lights and the Park-and-Ride as will be operating right up to 7pm on Christmas Eve.

The service has been running Monday to Saturday all year carrying on average 164 passenger journeys a day.

The shuttle service, operated by First Cymru plying between Nantyci Car Park and the town centre, usually peaks in the run up to Christmas with heavily laden Christmas shoppers happy to let the convenient bus take the strain to get to and from their parked up car.

The original popular service started on 2007 when the St Catherine’s development work began and the mart car park was lost. Service use peaked in 2009 with more than 5,000 passengers a week during the construction period.

In those days the service was free and more frequently and was paid for by developer contributions.

Developer funding came to an end mid-2011 and Carmarthenshire council kept it going as a paying service but usage slowly declined. In 2015 the authority entered into a funding partnership with the Hywel Dda University Health Board to expand the service to include runs to and from Glangwili Hospital. The Park-and-Ride operates from Nantyci car Park where parking remains free and bus travel to and from the town centre or the hospital will be only £1 for a day return ticket with free travel for children under 16 if accompanied by an adult.

County executive board member for transport services Cllr Hazel Evans said: “The Park-and-Ride service takes all the stress out of Christmas – less time queueing for or seeking parking spaces means more time to browse for those perfect gifts. The buses are fast and frequent and I would urge shoppers and office users to give it a try and in so doing helping to sustain the service.”

Fares for passengers starting their journey at other stops, Blue Street, bus station bay 7; Spilman Street, St Peters bus shelter; Tanerdy, Nash Avenue bus shelter; Opposite hospital entrance bus shelter, will be comparable to other local bus services, and passengers will be able to buy or use return tickets, 12 trip tickets and west Wales Rover tickets.

Rhowch gynnig ar Barcio a Theithio dros y Nadolig

SICRHEWCH bod eich siopa Nadolig yn didrafferth yng Nghaerfyrddin eleni trwy ddefnyddio ein gwasanaeth Parcio a Theithio.

Mae’r Nadolig yn agosáu yng Nghaerfyrddin gyda’r goleuadau Nadolig yn cael eu cynnau ar 24 Tachwedd, a bydd y gwasanaeth Parcio a Theithio ar waith hyd at 7pm ar Noswyl Nadolig.

Mae’r gwasanaeth wedi bod yn rhedeg o ddydd Llun i ddydd Sadwrn trwy gydol y flwyddyn hon, gan ddarparu 164 o siwrneiau teithwyr bob dydd ar gyfartaledd.

Caiff y gwasanaeth gwennol ei weithredu gan First Cymru, ac mae’n teithio rhwng Maes Parcio Nant-y-ci a chanol y dref. Fel arfer mae’r galw yn cynyddu dros gyfnod y Nadolig, gan fod siopwyr yn hapus i ddefnyddio’r bws cyfleus ac osgoi anawsterau’r maes parcio.

Lansiwyd y gwasanaeth poblogaidd yn 2007 pan ddechreuwyd gwaith datblygu Santes Catrin a chollwyd Maes Parcio’r Mart. Cyrhaeddodd y gwasanaeth ei benllanw yn 2009, gyda mwy na 5,000 o deithwyr yr wythnos yn ystod y cyfnod adeiladu.

Ar yr adeg honno, roedd y gwasanaeth ar gael am ddim gan fod cyfraniadau datblygwr yn talu’r gost.

Daeth y cyllid datblygwr i ben yng nghanol 2011. O dan reolaeth Cyngor Sir Caerfyrddin, parhawyd y gwasanaeth gan godi tâl ond roedd llai a llai o bobl yn ei ddefnyddio. Yn 2015, sefydlwyd partneriaeth rhwng yr Awdurdod a Bwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Hywel Dda er mwyn ehangu’r gwasanaeth a chynnwys siwrneiau o Ysbyty Glangwili ac yn ôl. Mae’r gwasanaeth Parcio a Theithio yn cychwyn ym Maes Parcio Nant-y-ci, lle mae parcio’n dal i fod am ddim. Bydd taith i ganol y dref neu i’r ysbyty ac yn ôl yn costio £1 yn unig am docyn dwyffordd undydd, a bydd plant o dan 16 oed yn teithio am ddim os ydynt yng nghwmni oedolyn.

Dywedodd y Cynghorydd Hazel Evans, yr Aelod o’r Bwrdd Gweithredol dros Drafnidiaeth: “Mae’r gwasanaeth Parcio a Theithio’n gwneud y Nadolig yn hawdd – mae treulio llai o amser yn ciwio neu’n chwilio am lefydd yn y maes parcio yn golygu y bydd mwy o amser i chi chwilio am yr anrhegion perffaith. Mae’r bysiau’n gyflym ac yn gyson a byddwn i’n annog siopwyr a gweithwyr i roi gynnig arnynt, ac wrth wneud hynny, yn helpu i gadw’r gwasanaeth.”

Bydd prisiau ar gyfer teithwyr sy’n dechrau ar eu taith o stopiau eraill, Heol Las, cilfan 7 yr orsaf fysiau; Heol Spilman, arhosfan bysiau San Pedr; Tanerdy, arhosfan Rhodfa Nash; arhosfan gyferbyn â’r ysbyty, yn debyg i wasanaethau bysiau lleol eraill, a bydd teithwyr yn gallu prynu neu ddefnyddio tocynnau dwyffordd, Tocynnau 12 Taith a Thocynnau Crwydro Gorllewin Cymru.
