KIND-hearted Carmarthenshire residents are being asked to dig deep and help children and families in need this Christmas.
Carmarthenshire County Council’s seventh annual Toybox appeal is in full swing, and will still accept donations up until December 6.
Lots of toys, games and gifts have already been donated, but there’s particular need for donations to suit boys and girls aged between four and 10.
People kind enough to donate are asked to provide gifts unwrapped so that they can be easily sorted.
The presents will be given to families who, for a range of reasons, are not able to give their children a Christmas that most of us take for granted.
Schools, family centres and youth workers identify those who are in greatest need of support.
Last year, gifts were provided for 662 children and young people and more than 250 food hampers were handed out.
Council staff are joined by volunteers to sort, wrap and deliver toys and hampers in the run-up to Christmas.
Council deputy leader, Cllr Mair Stephens, said: “We all recognise and appreciate Christmas is a time for giving and receiving. Unfortunately there are families that face difficult times and perhaps, sometimes, by providing gifts for their children, they go into debt.
“We have a small but hard working team who ensure that recipients are vetted to as being appropriately in need. From collection to storage and wrapping it is all a massive undertaking.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank businesses for their generosity and support, in particular Nolan Windows, which has allowed the appeal to be hosted at their premises in Johnstown.”

Helpu plant a theuluoedd mewn angen y Nadolig hwn
Gofynnir i breswylwyr caredig Sir Gaerfyrddin fynd i’w pocedi a helpu plant a theuluoedd sydd mewn angen y Nadolig hwn.
Mae seithfed Apêl Teganau flynyddol Cyngor Sir Caerfyrddin yn ei hanterth a bydd dal modd cyfrannu i’r Apêl hyd at 6 Rhagfyr.
Mae nifer o deganau, gemau ac anrhegion eisoes wedi cael eu rhoi ond mae angen penodol am gyfraniadau sy’n addas ar gyfer bechgyn a merched rhwng 4 a 10 oed.
Gofynnir i bobl sy’n ddigon caredig i gyfrannu i’r Apêl ddarparu anrhegion heb eu lapio er mwyn iddynt allu cael eu storio’n hawdd.
Bydd yr anrhegion yn cael eu rhoi i deuluoedd nad ydynt, am resymau amrywiol, yn gallu dathlu’r Nadolig yn y ffordd sy’n gyffredin i’r rhan fwyaf ohonom.
Mae ysgolion, canolfannau teulu a gweithwyr ieuenctid yn nodi’r rheiny sydd fwyaf angen cymorth.
Y llynedd, darparwyd anrhegion ar gyfer 662 o blant a phobl ifanc a dosbarthwyd mwy na 250 o hamperi bwyd.
Daw staff y Cyngor a gwirfoddolwyr at ei gilydd er mwyn didoli, lapio a dosbarthu teganau a hamperi yn ystod y cyfnod cyn y Nadolig.
Dywedodd y Cynghorydd Mair Stephens, Dirprwy Arweinydd y Cyngor: “Rydym i gyd yn cydnabod ac yn gwerthfawrogi bod y Nadolig yn amser i roi anrhegion a’u cael. Yn anffodus mae yna deuluoedd sy’n wynebu adegau anodd, ac weithiau maent yn mynd i ddyled er mwyn rhoi anrhegion i’w plant.
“Mae gennym dîm bach sy’n gweithio’n galed i sicrhau bod y rhai sy’n derbyn anrhegion yn gymwys ac mewn angen priodol. O gasglu i storio a lapio, mae’r cyfan yn gamp enfawr.
“Hoffwn achub ar y cyfle hwn i ddiolch i fusnesau am eu haelioni a’u cefnogaeth, yn enwedig Ffenestri Nolan, sydd wedi caniatáu i’r apêl gael ei chynnal ar eu safle yn Nhre Ioan.”
