Buddsoddiad sylweddol yn Ysgol Coedcae wedi’i gwblhau

Mae buddsoddiad gwerth £6.7 miliwn wedi’i gwblhau yn Ysgol Coedcae, Llanelli, sy’n cynnwys adeiladu bloc gwyddoniaeth newydd ac adnewyddu’r adeilad presennol.

Cynhelir yr agoriad swyddogol ar 7 Rhagfyr am 1.45pm, a bydd yn cynnwys adloniant gan y disgyblion, dadorchuddio’r plac ac areithiau gan bobl nodedig.

Cyflawnwyd y cynllun trwy Raglen Moderneiddio Addysg y Cyngor Sir.

Mae’r gwelliannau’n cynnwys adeiladu estyniad er mwyn creu bloc gwyddoniaeth newydd, gwaredu’r holl ystafelloedd symudol ac adnewyddu’r adeilad presennol.

Yn ogystal, gwnaed gwelliannau o ran mynediad i drafnidiaeth a cherddwyr ynghyd â llwybrau cerdded dan do ar draws y safle.

Daeth hanner y cyllid o grant Llywodraeth Cymru drwy ei menter Ysgolion yr 21ain Ganrif, a daeth yr hanner arall o Raglen Moderneiddio Addysg y Cyngor.

Y Cynghorydd Glynog Davies, yr Aelod o’r Bwrdd Gweithredol dros Addysg, fydd yn cyflawni’r agoriad swyddogol. Dywedodd: “Bydd y buddsoddiad hwn yn darparu cyfleusterau o’r radd flaenaf i ddisgyblion Coedcae.

“Bydd yn darparu amgylchedd gwaith gwych i bobl ifanc er mwyn eu helpu i gyflawni eu llawn botensial.”

Darparwyd Canolfan Cerddoriaeth a Thechnoleg yn Ysgol Coedcae hefyd, fel rhan o brosiect Pentref Galwedigaethol Llanelli.

Mae’r pentref yn gynllun arloesol wedi’i ddatblygu’n arbennig er mwyn cynnig cyfleoedd dysgu o’r radd flaenaf i ddisgyblion ysgolion uwchradd yn ardal Llanelli.

Mae Canolfan Ragoriaeth Sgiliau Adeiladu, wedi’i hadeiladu ar safle Ysgol Bryngwyn, yn un o’r elfennau sydd eisoes wedi’i chwblhau.

Bydd cyfleuster hyfforddiant arlwyo arbenigol yn cael ei ddatblygu yn Ysgol Gatholig Sant Ioan Llwyd; cyfleuster celfyddydau perfformio a chyfryngau yn Ysgol y Strade achyfleuster gofalu a gofal plant yn Ysgol Glan-y-môr.

Gall y disgyblion fynychu unrhyw un o’r pum elfen sy’n rhan o’r pentref, ni waeth pa ysgol maent yn ei mynychu, gan greu ymagwedd sy’n canolbwyntio ar unigolion o ran dysgu galwedigaethol.

Ychwanegodd y Cynghorydd Davies: “Bydd y Pentref Galwedigaethol yn cynyddu nifer ac ystod y cyrsiau sydd ar gael i ddisgyblion rhwng 14 a 19 oed.

“Bydd yn cael ei ddarparu drwy gydweithrediad rhwng yr ysgolion, Coleg Sir Gâr, darparwyr dysgu yn y gweithle a’r sector gwirfoddol.

“Bydd y pentref yn cynnig y cyfleusterau cywir er mwyn cyflawni safonau uchel ar y cyrsiau y mae disgyblion yn eu dewis.”

Major investment completed at Coedcae School

A £6.7million investment has been completed at Llanelli’s Coedcae School to include a new science block and refurbishment of the existing building.

The official opening will take place on December 7 at 1.45pm, which will include entertainment by the pupils, unveiling of the plaque and speeches by dignitaries.

The scheme was delivered through the county council’s Modernising Education Programme (MEP).

It included an extension to replace an old block with a new science block, removal of mobile accommodation and refurbishment of the existing building.

Improvements to transport and pedestrian access were also carried out with covered walkways throughout the site.

Half the funding for the scheme came from a Welsh Government grant, through its 21^st Century Schools initiative, and the other half from the council’s MEP.

Education executive board member Cllr Glynog Davies, who will perform the official opening, said: “This investment will provide first class facilities for pupils at Coedcae.

“It will provide young people with an excellent working environment to help them reach their full potential.”

A music and technology centre was also delivered at Coedcae as part of the Llanelli Vocational Village project.

The village is a pioneering scheme developed specifically to offer top of the range learning opportunities for secondary schoolchildren in the Llanelli area.

A construction skills centre of excellence, built on the site of Bryngwyn School, is one of the elements which has already been completed.

A specialist catering training facility will be developed at St John Lloyd Catholic School; a performing arts and media facility at Ysgol Y Strade; and a caring and child care facility at Glan y Môr.

Pupils can attend any of the five elements that make up the village, regardless of which school they go to, creating a person-centred approach to vocational learning.

Cllr Davies added: “The Vocational Village will increase the number and range of courses available to pupils aged between 14 and 19.

“It will be delivered through collaboration between the schools, Coleg Sir Gar, work based providers and the voluntary sector.

“The village will offer the right facilities to achieve high standards in pupils’ chosen courses.”
