Ambitious Growth Plans for Port Talbot based Rhino Doors

Rhino Doors in Port Talbot is growing in strength to match the power of its products.

More than 20 years after the former Rio Tinto Zinc firm started development of a unique door design, Rhino Doors is leading innovation in the field of attack, blast, bullet and vehicle ram resistant security doors and gates.

Perhaps one of Port Talbot’s best kept secrets, Rhino Doors has a portfolio of high-profile clients, supplying to the likes of the Bank of England, Royal Mail, the Ministry of Defence and major rail infrastructure projects in the UK.

With increasing demand for their award winning services and ambitions to grow their product range, in 2016 the company moved to larger premises at

Llewellyn’s Quay, within the Port Talbot Waterfront Enterprise Zone.

The new premises have provided Rhino Doors with 70% additional manufacturing space, increasing their production capabilities by up to four times due to facility layout improvements, enabling the firm to acquire additional UK customers and increase their international export capability.

Managing director Stuart Lawrence said: “The relocation of Rhino Doors was long overdue.  We now have greater capacity to meet the demands of future projects in line with our product expansion plan.”

“The successful completion of our five-year plan will see us securing overseas clientele and treble our turnover within the next five years. It will also in turn create a number of skilled manufacturing jobs.”

Over the next 12 to 18 months, Rhino Doors will invest over £250k in new product development, including diversification into perimeter security systems such as pedestrian protection via automated bollards.

Rhino currently has a workforce of 25 and plans to increase this significantly over the next 12 months.

The development of the company has been supported by Neath Port Talbot Council who assisted in their relocation and the company paid tribute to the support they had from the local authority.

Mr Lawrence added: “Neath Port Talbot Council’s Business Development team has provided valuable advice on funding opportunities and supported our expansion and product development plans.”

Councillor Annette Wingrave, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Sustainable Development said: “I am delighted to see the company flourishing and I look forward to the successful delivery of the company’s growth and product expansion plans.

“Rhino Doors have settled into their new, larger premises well and I am confident that they will provide more employment opportunities for local people in the future.

“Port Talbot is an excellent area for all size enterprises and we are pleased to be able to accommodate those who expand as their businesses reach new heights.”

Now the firm is embarking on an ambitious growth plan and extending its product ranges to reach international markets and sectors, recently revealing a sleek new brand to attract a global audience.

Rhino recently attended trade shows in Oman and Dubai where they succeeded in establishing a key manufacturing partner in the region.

Rhino and Qatar Metal Industries (QMI) are in the process of setting up a jointly owned manufacturing facility in Dubai which will enable Rhino to bring their innovative and world-leading solutions to infrastructure projects, security services, defence and petrochemical projects in the Middle East region.

Rhino’s Stuart Lawrence added “This joint venture, once implemented will provide Rhino with the perfect platform to launch our expanding technology and product range into the Gulf Cooperation Council region. With the existing experience and expertise present within QMI, this partnership will provide customers in the region with access to quality, British engineered designs.
