Support for Harbour management proposal

CARMARTHENSHIRE County Council’s executive board has supported proposals to lease Burry Port Harbour to a specialist management company with a view to securing its long-term future.

Members have today reviewed proposals by The Marine Group, which wants to invest in the harbour and manage it as a first class marina.

The company said it could create several jobs by supporting and investing in services such as boat repairs and engineering, re-fuelling facilities and a boat hoist, which would support the day to day operations of the harbour and help it compete with others across the UK.

A sustainable dredging solution for the harbour and access channel is also being proposed.

Such a move would help the council address ongoing maintenance and management sustainability challenges, as well as offering improved facilities and attracting more users.

It would also further develop the harbour as part of the regeneration masterplan for the area, connecting it with landside developments such as leisure and residential building projects.

The company said it would like to convert and extend the existing RNLI building, once the new lifeboat base is complete, to provide a new marina management office, with modern changing rooms and a café and restaurant unit. The company is also keen to work with the local community and in turn support local businesses.

The long-term arrangement would see a financial return to the authority with a guaranteed revenue stream.

The Executive Board has supported the proposal in principle and the council will now negotiate final lease terms and complete due diligence checks.

Cllr Peter Hughes Griffiths, executive board member for culture, sport and tourism, said: “We need to find long-term solutions for the future of Burry Port Harbour as an attractive and fully-functioning high-class marina. Having specialist management in place supports our aspirations for all users of the marina – those using the marine facilities and those who want to enjoy it as part of our wider tourism offer.

“We must get this right, so we will take the time we need to negotiate terms and ensure that this is the best option for the future.”

MAE Bwrdd Gweithredol Cyngor Sir Gaerfyrddin wedi cefnogi cynigion i brydlesu Harbwr Porth Tywyn i gwmni rheoli arbenigol gyda golwg ar sicrhau ei ddyfodol yn y tymor hir.

Heddiw bu Aelodau’n ystyried cynigion gan The Marine Group, sydd am fuddsoddi yn yr harbwr a’i reoli fel marina o’r radd flaenaf.

Dywedodd y cwmni y gallai greu nifer o swyddi drwy gefnogi a buddsoddi mewn gwasanaethau megis atgyweirio cychod a pheirianneg, cyfleusterau ail-lenwi â thanwydd a theclyn codi cychod. Byddai hyn o gymorth o ran rhedeg yr harbwr o ddydd i ddydd ac yn ei helpu i gystadlu ag eraill o amgylch y DU.

Hefyd cynigir atebion cynaliadwy ar gyfer carthu’r harbwr a’r sianel fynediad.

Byddai cam o’r fath yn helpu’r Cyngor i fynd i’r afael â’r heriau parhaus o ran cynnal a chadw a rheoli mewn modd cynaliadwy, yn ogystal â chynnig gwell cyfleusterau a denu mwy o ddefnyddwyr.

Hefyd byddai’n datblygu rhagor ar yr harbwr fel rhan o’r prif gynllun adfywio ar gyfer yr ardal, gan ei gysylltu â datblygiadau ar y tir megis prosiectau adeiladu hamdden a phreswyl.

Dywedodd y cwmni y byddai’n hoffi addasu a helaethu adeilad presennol yr RNLI, wedi i’r ganolfan cwch achub newydd gael ei chwblhau, er mwyn darparu swyddfa newydd ar gyfer rheoli’r marina, gydag ystafelloedd newid modern, caffi a bwyty. Mae’r cwmni’n awyddus hefyd i weithio gyda’r gymuned leol a chefnogi busnesau lleol.

Byddai’r trefniant tymor hir yn golygu y byddai’r awdurdod yn elwa’n ariannol ac yn sicrhau bod ganddo ffrwd refeniw.

Mae’r Bwrdd Gweithredol wedi cefnogi’r cynnig mewn egwyddor a bellach bydd y Cyngor yn negodi telerau terfynol y brydles ac yn cwblhau’r gwiriadau diwydrwydd gofynnol.

Dywedodd y Cynghorydd Peter Hughes Griffiths, yr Aelod o’r Bwrdd Gweithredol dros Ddiwylliant, Chwaraeon a Thwristiaeth: “Mae angen inni ddod o hyd i atebion tymor hir ar gyfer dyfodol Harbwr Porth Tywyn fel marina deniadol o safon, sy’n gwbl weithredol.  Mae cael cwmni rheoli arbenigol yn ategu ein dyheadau ar gyfer pawb sy’n defnyddio’r marina – y rhai sy’n defnyddio’r cyfleusterau morol a’r rhai sydd am ei fwynhau fel rhan o’n cynnig twristiaeth ehangach.

“Mae’n rhaid i ni gael hyn yn iawn, felly byddwn ni’n cymryd pwyll wrth negodi’r telerau er mwyn sicrhau taw hwn yw’r opsiwn gorau ar gyfer y dyfodol.”
