Eight projects awarded funding through EIP Wales
20/12/2017
European Innovation Partnership Wales (EIP Wales), which is delivered by Menter a Busnes, hasapproved 8 projects to date since being awarded the major Welsh Government Project.
With a budget of up to £40,000 funding per project (maximum of 45 projects), EIP Wales encourages people to work together to solve common agricultural and forestry problems with the use of new and sustainable technology.
The8 innovative and unique projects which have been approved are looking to address a range of issues within both the agricultural and forestry sectors in Wales:
The potato blight project aims to apply current research to develop an effective, natural and potentially low-cost bio-pesticide to common potato blight using a chemical(Saponin)sourced from the chemical structure of common Ivy.
The Cambrian Mountains beef group incorporates the use of relevant technical experts to expand the resources available to primary producers within rural areas. The aim is to identify and address the needs of farming businesses with regards to direct marketing of produce in order to secure long term, short supply chains.
Pasture for pollinators – explores how forage resources on dairy farms can be managed to conserve and enhance populations of bumblebees and other pollinators. The aim is to increasing the number and diversity of food plants, and period over in which they are in flower, and maximise the productivity and financial performance of farms.
Reducing antibiotic at lambing time – is developing the research of how changes in flock management through improved nutrition and hygiene, can reduce the need for antibiotics, and at the same time increase production while maintaining high standards of animal health and welfare.
Low impact machinery in small scale farm woodlands – aims to illustrate the relative merits of the different types of management with a view to highlighting the most appropriate methods of minimising environmental disturbance.
Squill Production in North Wales – Squill (Urgineamaritima) is used in a number of anti-cough preparations, and is traditionally sourced from the wild in India and Northern Africa. The aim is to establish the demands of the plant including agronomy, harvesting and extraction techniques and their costs when grown in Wales.
Robotic weeder in small scale horticulture – aims to determine the savings in terms of labour cost and time when using computerised inter-row weeder in small scale, organically managed, horticultural systems.
Genomic testing of dairy heifers – The objective of the 3-year project is to maximise the opportunity of genomic testing heifers to accelerate the breeding progress of dairy herds. The eight farms have listed the traits they’re aiming to improve within their herd and progress towards these will be assessed over 3 lactation periods.
With other project applications currently in the EIP Wales application process, Menter a Busnes hope to approve many more projects in the near future, and are motivated to reach the 45 project target by 2022.

Wyth prosiect wedi cael eu hawdurdodi trwy EIP Wales
Mae Partneriaeth Arloesi Ewrop yng Nghymru (EIPWales), sydd yn cael ei redeg gan Menter a Busnes, wedi awdurdodi wyth prosiect ers derbyn y cytundeb gan Lywodraeth Cymru.
Gyda hyd at £40,000 o gyllideb i bob prosiect (uchafswm o 45 prosiect), mae EIP Wales yn annog pobl i ddod at ei gilydd i ddatrys problemau amaethyddol a choedwigaeth cyffredin gan ddefnyddio technoleg newydd a chynaliadwy.
Bwriad yr wyth prosiect unigryw ac arloesol sydd wedi cael eu hawdurdodi hyd yn hyn yw mynd i’r afael ag amrywiaeth o faterion o fewn y sector amaethyddol a choedwigaeth yng Nghymru:
Amcan prosiect clwyf tatws yw defnyddio’r ymchwil diweddaraf i helpu datblygu plaladdwr naturiol, effeithiol a chost-isel i atal clefyd tatws gan ddefnyddio cemegyn (Saponin) sy’n deillioo eiddew.
Mae’r grŵp cig eidion Mynyddoedd Cambria yn defnyddio arbenigwyr technegol perthnasol er mwyn ehangu’r adnoddau sydd ar gael i gynhyrchwyr mewn cymunedau gwledig. Y bwriad yw canfod anghenion busnes ffermio o ran marchnata cynnyrch yn uniongyrchol er mwyn sicrhau cadwyn gyflenwi fer ar gyfer y tymor hir, cyn mynd i’r afael â nhw.
Mae porfa i beillwyr yn archwilio sut mae adnoddau porthiant ar ffermydd godro yn medru cael eu rheoli er mwyn diogelu a chynyddu poblogaeth gwenyn a pheillwyr eraill. Amcan y prosiect yw cynyddu nifer ac amrywiaeth o blanhigion bwyd, a’r cyfnod maen nhw yn eu blodau yn ogystal â chynyddu cynhyrchiant a pherfformiad ariannol ffermydd.
Lleihau gwrthfiotigau yn ystod ŵyna –Mae’r prosiect hwn yn datblygu gwaith ymchwil ar sut mae newidiadau mewn rheoli diadell trwy wella maeth a glanweithdra yn medru lleihau’r angen am wrthfiotigau. Bydd cynhyrchiant yn cynyddu trwy gynnal safon uchel o iechyd a lles yr anifail.
Peiriannau effaith isel mewn coetiroedd fferm ar raddfa fechan – Y bwriad yw dangos manteision perthnasol y gwahanol fathau o reoli trwy geisio amlygu’r ffyrdd mwyaf addas o leihau’r amharu ar yr amgylchedd.
Cynhyrchu Serenyn (Squill) yng Ngogledd Cymru – Mae Serenyn (Urginea maritima) yn cael ei ddefnyddio mewn nifer o foddion peswch ac yn tyfu’n wyllt yn India a Gogledd Affrica yn draddodiadol. Y bwriad yw ceisio deall anghenion y planhigyn gan gynnwys agronomeg, cynaeafu a thechnegau echdynnu a’r gost o dyfu’r planhigyn yng Nghymru.
Chwynwr robotig mewn garddwriaeth ar raddfa fechan –Amcan y prosiect y canfod beth yw’r arbedion o ran costau llafur ac amser o ddefnyddio chwynwr cyfrifiadurol rhwng y rhesi mewn systemau garddwriaeth sydd wedi ei rheoli’n organig ar raddfa fach.
Profion genomig ar heffrodgodro – Nod y prosiect tair blynedd hwn yw gwneud y mwyaf o’r cyfle i wneud prawf genomig ar heffrod er mwyn cyflymu cyfnod magu buches odro. Mae’r wyth fferm wedi rhestru’r nodweddion maen nhw’n bwriadu eu gwella yn eu buchesi a bydd y gwelliant yn rhain yn cael eu hasesu dros 3 cyfnod llaetha.
Mae Menter a Busnes yn gobeithio awdurdodi nifer o brosiectau eraill yn y dyfodol agos ac yn gobeithio cyrraedd y targed o 45 prosiect erbyn 2022 gyda sawl cais prosiect yn y broses ymgeisio ar hyn o bryd.
