Burry Port Harbour’s exciting plans
Exciting new plans for Burry Port Harbour will be unveiled at an open day next month.
People are being encouraged to attend the event to learn about the future plans for the harbour.
It comes after marina specialists, The Marine Group were granted a long term lease for the running and development of the 450-berth harbour following a decision by the council’s executive board in December.
The group has existing marinas in Cardiff, Aberystwyth and Port Dinorwic. In addition, the company offers an integrated approach to boat owners with an established service offering including drystack berthing, hard standing storage, a large boatyard and undercover workshops, commercial property management and water injection dredging services.
The open day will run from 1-7pm on Wednesday, February 7 at Burry Port’s Memorial Hall.
People will have a chance to meet with the staff from The Marine Group and officers from Carmarthenshire County Council to discuss plans for the harbour and its operation. The RNLI will also be present to update on their plans for a new facility at the Harbour.
Staff from the Council’s Regeneration Division will also be present to update the public on the wider masterplan for the harbour.
Christopher Odling-Smee, Director said: “We are excited to be working closely with Carmarthenshire Council to help develop Burry Port Marina into a first-class facility and a sustainable destination, alongside their greater ambition to deliver the wider masterplan adjacent to the marina. The wider masterplan being taken forward by the council will greatly complement our plans for the marina.”
The long-term arrangement would see a financial return to the authority with a guaranteed revenue stream.
The council’s executive board member for leisure, Cllr Peter Hughes- Griffiths said: “Having taken time to negotiate terms and ensure long term sustainability for the harbour, we are pleased that marina specialists will take the harbour to a new level with their experience and expertise. We only want the best for our wonderful harbour and to ensure it is there for everyone to enjoy – residents, tourists and boat owners alike.”
The company said it would like to convert and extend the existing RNLI building, once the new lifeboat base is complete, to provide a new marina management office, with modern changing rooms and a café and restaurant unit. The company is also keen to work with the local community and in turn support local businesses.
Drew McDonald, Director added: “We are delighted to welcome Burry Port Marina to the company. We look forward to meeting berth holders and introducing a number of initiatives including our Refer a Friend promotion and Visitor Exchange Programme between our existing marinas in Cardiff, Aberystwyth and Port Dinorwic.”
