Cefn Sidan beach blitz
People are being encouraged to take part in a beach clean-up this weekend.
Pembrey Country Park is organising a two-day blitz of Cefn Sidan beach on Saturday and Sunday at 10.30am and anyone wishing to lend a helping hand is being urged to attend.
Children and dogs on leads are welcome and equipment – gloves, litter picks and bags – will be provided.
Entry to the park is free for anyone talking part in the two-hour clean-up and volunteers will be met by the team at the park’s visitor centre.
The beach which is seven miles of golden sands can get littered with sea borne material as well as rubbish left behind from visitors.
Clean ups are popular with volunteers and regular events take place throughout the year with Keep Wales Tidy and other organisations.
Cllr Peter Hughes Griffiths said: “It’s not unusual for sea-borne litter to be washed up on our coastline. This can be exacerbated by extreme weather conditions and high tides. However, some litter is unfortunately left behind by beach users. This is totally unacceptable, not only does litter blight the landscape, it can have a huge impact on the environment as well as taking up ranger time that could be better spent elsewhere. We work closely with Keep Wales Tidy and other organisations who carry our regular litter clean ups on Burry Port and Cefn Sidan beaches. This weekend we have organised two clean ups at Cefn Sidan on Saturday and Sunday at 10.30am and we would encourage anyone to attend. Further information is available on Pembrey Country Park Facebook page. We can make a difference if we act responsibly.”
