AM DISCUSSES TROSTRE WORKS WITH COMPANY

Mid and West AM Simon Thomas met with Bobbie Davies, a representative from TATA Steel UK, at the National Assembly.

TATA Steel is a major employer in the Llanelli area with it’s Trostre plant being the workplace of around 700 people, responsible for managing the largest steel recycler in the UK.

Plaid Cymru’s Simon Thomas said:

“The steel industry is critical to the Welsh economy and my mid and west region is no exception to that. With hundreds of people working at the Trostre plant in Llanelli and thousands more across the nation, many jobs are dependent on TATA thriving in spite of the adversity our current economic climate throws in it’s path.

“Plaid Cymru successfully fought for ÂŁ30 million of funding from the Welsh Government in the budget for a power plant to keep TATA’s energy costs down and reduce emissions. Nonetheless, I will continue to urge Governments at a Welsh and Westminster level to pay attention to the ongoing difficulties within the sector and help protect it as we prepare for the future.

“A workforce of nearly 700 in Llanelli will inevitably be experiencing anxiety over well-reported instability in recent months – they deserve our reassurance and support.”
