As I sat there pondering the existence of human-like emotions in crustaceans, a wayward thought found itself rummaging through my mind.
As a species, we’ve managed to advance so much that we’ve made things even more complicated for ourselves, when if you think about it we really should be doing the exact opposite and making everything easier.
Back in them cave days, all we had to worry about was what sort of animal we were going to draw on the wall today, or who we were going to fling our poo at. Maybe a sabre tooth tiger would attack once or twice, but generally we didn’t have too much to fret over.
You’d think that as we’ve evolved a bit since then we’d have an easier, less stressful time. Sure some places appear to have gone backwards entirely but at least a few of us are now more advanced. We have phones that can do everything, cars that can drive themselves and even pet food that can dispense itself. It’s all great!
We also have to worry about things like taxes. We need to repair our cars. Little Jimmy’s fallen off his bike and needs a new knee. The charger’s run out. The problems never end!
I find it quite ironic that in creating all this new technology that makes life easier, we’ve somehow managed to make it harder. It’s almost poetic.
