Road users in Neath Port Talbot will benefit from improvements on four key routes following additional funding of £1.12m to improve roads.

Thanks to a highway refurbishment grant from the Welsh Government, Neath Port Talbot Council will be starting a programme of surfacing works to sections of the B4242 Aberdulais to Glynneath, the A474 at Cwmgors, A483 Fabian Way and the A48 Margam.

Work will start on the B4242 Aberdulais to Glynneath next week, with further work on the other routes to be programmed later this year alongside the annual Council funded programme.

The funding follows previousassistance by Welsh Government which has proved successful at helping to improve the highway network.

The provision of this grant has enabled the Council to undertake an additional programme of improvements on the mainroad network. The works, carried out on a priority basis, will address significant pot holing, rutting, and profiling problems, declining skidding resistance and areas of structural failure, and assist with road preservation.

Councillor Ted Latham, Cabinet Member for Streetscene and Engineering said: “We’re delighted to have secured the funding from the Welsh Government which will enable us to further improve the county borough’s road network for the benefit of residents, visitors and businesses.

“I’d like to thank the Welsh Government for this extra support at a time when we are all struggling to financially make ends meet”.

Bydd defnyddwyr ffyrdd Castell-nedd Port Talbot yn elwa o welliannau ar bedwar llwybr allweddol yn dilyn cyllid ychwanegol gwerth £1.12m i wella ffyrdd.

O ganlyniad i grant adnewyddu priffyrdd gan Lywodraeth Cymru, bydd Cyngor Castell-nedd Port Talbot yn dechrau rhaglen o waith arwynebu i rannau o’r B4242 Aberdulais i Lyn-nedd, yr A474 yng Nghwmgors, yr A483 Ffordd Fabian a’r A48 Margam.

Bydd gwaith yn dechrau ar y B4242 Aberdulais i Lyn-nedd yr wythnos nesaf, gyda gwaith pellach ar lwybrau eraill i’w trefnu’n hwyrach y flwyddyn hon, ochr yn ochr â’r rhaglen flynyddol a ariennir gan y cyngor.

Mae’r cyllid yn dilyn cymorth blaenorol a gafwyd gan Lywodraeth Cymru sydd wedi profi’n llwyddiannus wrth helpu i wella’r rhwydwaith priffyrdd.

Mae darpariaeth y grant hwn wedi galluogi’r cyngor i ymgymryd â rhaglen ychwanegol o welliannau ar y brif rwydwaith priffyrdd. Bydd y gwaith, a gaiff ei gwblhau ar sail blaenoriaeth, yn mynd i’r afael â thyllau sylweddol yn y ffyrdd, rhigolau a phroblemau proffilio, dirywiad mewn gwrthsafiad sglefrio ac ardaloedd o fethiant adeileddol, ac yn cynorthwyo â’r gwaith o gynnal a chadw ffyrdd.

Meddai’r Cynghorydd Ted Latham, Aelod y Cabinet dros Strydlun a Pheirianneg, “Rydym wrth ein boddau ein bod wedi llwyddo sicrhau cyllid gan Lywodraeth Cymru a fydd yn ein galluogi i wella ymhellach rwydwaith ffyrdd y fwrdeistref sirol er lles preswylwyr, ymwelwyr a busnesau.

“Hoffwn ddiolch i Lywodraeth Cymru am y gefnogaeth ychwanegol hon ar adeg pan rydym yn cael cryn anhawster cael y ddeupen ynghyd.”
